Default Genuine thanks Limewire, but moving on...

I started using Limewire about 2 years ago, when i got my first PC.

I was amazed at the power of the program and the fact no spyware is installed.

But just over the last year Limewire has slowly gotten worse. All searches are swamped with fake files, but if you use the junk filter genuine files are caught in it.

But the killer for me is finding a new app, which I obviously can't give the name of.

In this new app I'm connected to about 25000 people and get about 3000% more search results than Limewire! No I'm not joking. I get NO SPAM AT ALL. I get rare files that I can't get on Limewire. And I get more comprehensive search features.

So how come Limewire has so many more users but so many less files, how come when I look in the technical support section the mods don't seem to care/listen, how come there is so much spam?

I have really tried to remain faithful to Limewire because of how great it has been, but I don't feel that I'm getting anything back.

+++++++++++++

So cue 'You're talking crap', 'It'll be fixed soon', 'don't let the door hit you on the way out' etc. etc.

But why would I lie?

Thanks and goodbye Limewire!!!

Who said we don't care. There's simply nothing we can do about the likes of professionally organised spammers trying to stop people like you from using LW. What are "we" the moderators of a forum supposed to do about it exactly. We are simply users just like you. It sounds to me like the program you found is a totally different network. But good luck anyway. I've been using the program for about 4+ years. I've also tried others but am still dedicated to LW. I get what "I" want on the network because I don't seek copyright material that people should buy anyway.

Gnutella has now become too big. So it's now a major target for spammers/record labels. Because it's 1 massive group of sharers then a blow to one is a blow to all. If it was made of smaller independant sections a blow to one wouldn't affect the rest. People and bots could be in control of the sections so fake sharers, leechers and spammers would have a much tougher time. They have to get by a registration process, users being able to quickly report any trouble, bots etc.

But with such a huge un-regulated system, it's just too easy for these spammers/agencies to run amok.

The analogy could be 'Hey! In Virtuaworld we've got the biggest swimming pool in the world, everyone's welcome.' But it's so big that it can't be staffed, so you can poo in the pool or dive in the shallow end or come in with verrucas... whatever you want! The sensible, strong swimmers can't swim a length without someone dive-bombing beside them.

Whereas on the other hand - 'Hey! we're a small pool designed to cater for sensible swimmers only' This way a few staff are able to make sure everyone has a wristband, no-one craps in the pool etc. etc. It makes for a much more pleasurable swimming experience! And if you want to you can go to the pool down the road which is a specialist in waterslides.

Betas are on the way ... I wonder what they have that's not in LW now. LW has been spending a long time between the last official release & last beta. Some extras are guaranteed.

The concept of spammers of fake files ... it will get sorted one way or the other eventually. Remember this is a relatively new concept that's only shown up some months ago on the gnutella network. There's been some answer come up to overcome other types of spam. Patience ... if the next beta doesn't sort it, then probably not too long after.

Well I'm glad you find me so interesting as to keep an eye on my browsing habits.

Think outside the box and you might come up with another reason why I've been logged in for so long...

Well I'll always be interested in the development of Gnutella and Limewire and I hope it works out.

I can tell you that the next beta will incorporate something that will block many known spammers ... a little similar to how some other gnutella programs have. This might not be the end all answer as suggested earlier, but it will most likely have some effect. After all, it's a beta. Betas improve ...

Isn't it typical of spammers to stick around all day to observe the activity Lord?

Default spammers

Out of interest, how do 'Spammers' get the files out there so quickly? some files that I've been sharing for ages , still don't appear on general 'Searches', is this a time factor,or title factor or is there a trick to getting your files recognised? The corporate machine is busy trying to wreck 'Freedoms' wherever you look,so far you can see them for what they are,Like fake files, lets hope it stays as a minor annoyance.I would like to Insert spamm ers into a tin where they belong !! newbee2
