Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Child Pornography - Limewire should take action

It is obvious Limewire is used by sick people to do sick things. Without making an effort, using a default search filter in Limewire (Videos > Adult) you can quickly be exposed to child pornography.

Drilling into some of the keywords used in this listings, you are presented with a smorgas board of illegal material to choose from.

The question is, how do we stop it?

It could be argued that Limewire, as the service provider, should protect its users and do their best to stop it. I am not sure of Limewires official position on this, but I have yet to receive a reply to the many complaints I have made.

Free speech is one thing, but the abuse of innocent children is another.

Limewire should make available an easy way to report these individuals. They should allow a user to report an IP address or details of an offender. A simply method would be to include a "Report content" button, at which the Limewire server received a report of an IP address with the file name offered for download at the time and date it was reported. The system could instantly send a message to the IP address (if valid) and inform the user they have been reported for potentially offering illegal material. Limewire can make their decision after reviewing the content if they need to report it to the authorities.

Any sane person would have to agree something has to be done. The above may not be an appropriate or technically possible solution, but as users of Limewire we should continue to pressure Limewire to act upon this.

I'd hate to see the FBI or other agencies shut down Limewire because of incidents like this. No one wants that, but eventually I think it will happen.

Limewire - If you are reading what can you do?

Regards,
A concerned user.

Default LW "adult educational material" search results r unreliable @ best

So far I have done a few porn searches for specific movie titles, I've tried different keywords; filtering; advanced search techniques & I RARELY get anything that is remotely similar or relative to my queries. Most results that are titled correctly have a 98 % percent chance of NOT being what it says it is.

This is not that surprising considering internet adult contents current state of disaster. Intentionally searching for adult material is like a pc death wish & sadly the slightest typing error, 'miss-click' or deceitful redirection can land you into the wonderful world of MALWARE attacks.

I believe that the current increasing pc malware molestations (usually associated w/ porn sites) have already started to, & will continue to, expand into the internet mainstream.

So pay no attention to the ridicule & continue down the 'dark alley' & enjoy any valid "adult educational material" you can...And when the malware attacks are devastating the internet community, people will wonder how you became such an expert at removing and preventing such attacks...as they pay you top dollar for your expertise.
Good Luck

Default Unable to delete files

new user here:

I have been downloading music and recently opened Widows Media and found child porn. I dont recongnize the player icon, it looks like a gold piece of paper........I can't delete it and I can't exclude it and more likely than not is being shared right now. How do I remove files that do not respond to the delete command......and may have the error: unable to delete, file is being used by another program.

Thankyou.

Hello,

I fully agree with you that this is something that needs to be addressed. I have contacted my local police office whenever I received spam e-mails that contained lewd photographs of minors, or links to websites that may contain the same.

Many law enforcement branches either have officers that work on various forms of Internet-based crime, or they may have a s3x-crimes unit that would investigate Internet-based s3x crimes. If they don't have either at their detachment, then they would likely forward such complaints to provincial/state or federal authorities.

Just like with any type of crime, your best measure is contacting local law enforcement and leave it in their hands to investigate these kinds of crimes.

On another front, I'm not so sure that the P2P provider should be held responsible. However if they knowingly allow child pornography to be shared, then they should be responsible for contacting their local authorities to report such matters.

I do not believe that P2P providers should instantly ban or discipline users. We are all innocent until proven guilty, and in some of the spam cases that I have reported, the authorities found that the "teeny-boppers" were actually deemed to be over 18, despite looking many years younger in some cases.

Take care...

'legally' speaking p2p networks cannot do anything directly against sharers of such files..if they could, the network by definition would be illegal...the gnutella network is totally decentralized, and as such is legal...to be able to in any way control the network would be a sign of 'centralization' and said network and/or clients would be deemed illegal...

Hello

I am quite new to Limewire, but I agree that this tpic should be handled with more thought. Who knows who is using Limewire. For example, a 7-year old could be trying to find a movie or a Ttelevision show that they wanted to watch and they find some movie that someone made that they shouldn't see, but they begin to wonder what it could be and when they start to watch it's too late. What I really hate though is downloading a Television show or a movie that I have just sent the last hour or 2 trying to found and it turns out to be a prono movie that someone made that is titled with the same name as the television show or the movie that I just sent the last hour or 2 trying to find and after I just sent some time downloading it I find out that it's not the thing that I wanted. At that moment I have to delete what I just downloaded and begin my search again.

Default Disgusting!!!

I only had to search the word "dark" under image files on Limewire, and a couple of child pornography images (or what i assume is that, as the descriptions reads) came up under my search results. Is there some way to stop this? Some way of reporting these people? U can get their IP address cant you? Isnt that a way they can be tracked down?
