Network size, Rolling host count

Hi! May I ask how Limewire collect their data about 'rolling host count' at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/size? How is the Gnutella network size meassured?

Perhaps they count the connections on their router...

Every Gnutella client connects through their router? Hehe, I hope not!
I wonder how they meassure (or estimate) the size of a decentral network, which Gnutella is.
