Watch Out For Bug! BUG! WARNING! Using Limewire, IF you set your BLOCKED HOSTS to "DEFAULT" for example, EVERY SINGLE PREFERENCE OPTION YOU HAVE CHANGED, will also be put back to "DEFAULT", resetting everything! - This dangerously misleading "restore" button is in different sections, looking like different "Restore Defaults" buttons, that should only restore each individual section!!! All I wanted to do, was reset my "blocked hosts" list - NOW I HAVE TO REDO ALL MY SETTINGS... Thanks for nothing! THAT'S JUST POOR PROGRAMMING!... UNBELIEVEABLE! :nono: |
We are not programmers & this is not limewire.org, this is simply a forum that caters for various gnutella programs. LimeWire is one of those gnutella programs. I'll move your thread. Besides, it only takes me a few mins to reset the options. Also, if you go to Tools>Options>Filters>Hosts you can remove them yourself by selecting them & pressing the Remove button. That's what the remove button was put there for. So really, before you call them stupid, think about it. |
I've been programming since 1976. The buttons are still in every section, allowing you to unwittingly erase all your settings and lists, in one click, without even an "Are you sure you want to set all preferences to the default settings?" prompt.- that's a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE bug. I have (had) over 400 blocked hosts, and approximately 180 keywords in my list. Doing them one-by-one?... OUCH!... ;) |
We must live together with these problems. I propose to make regularly copies of the LW preferences folder and incomplete folder. |
You can make a request in the New Feature Requests section of the LW forum section. Actually with LW 4.12 & higher, the incompletes will continue from their previous state should anything happen such as LW crashing, system crash, not closing LW down properly before shutting down, etc. So there's no longer any issue there. If you were using a mac, with applescript you can automate copying of the downld prefs folder. Somebody already did it & it's been posted on the forums. See apple version here Utility that backs up lw's downloads.dat/bak files automatically for mac os x here |
Snoopy .. I did reset all my preference once .. like you have, I swore gently but it didn't kill me and I learned never to do it again:) |
