Connection quality degrading? I've been using Limewire for about 6 months now at work at a University. During that time I limited my upload bandwidth to 60k/sec to avoid calling attention to my machine.
My problem is that for the last few months the connections seem to have gone to hell. I get high %s of incoming messages dropped fairly often, and the connections rarely last for anything more than a minute. Usually when I start the client up, it gets up to 500 or so hosts between 8 connections, and occasionally goes up to levels I used to see (2-3k) but the connections keep dropping. If I leave the client running for a long time the situation seems to worsen, until it just says Connecting.... for all 8 slots and occasionally makes a connection for a few seconds.
Any of you networking gurus have any idea what migth be causing this? Do you think the University might be doing something to impede GnuTella traffic without actually blocking it completely? In case it's of relevance, I'm running Mac OS 9.1 on a B&W G3 w/ 128 RAM and virtual memory in use. |
