Can I filter out .wma files?

Please bear with me, I'm new to posting threads:idea: Lately, I've been getting a ton of .wma files when I search. They are nothing but junk. Is there a way to filter those out?
Thanks!

Yes:D
Use your keyword filter (tools > options > filters > keyword) & add .wma > apply > ok.

That should stop them showing in your searches. Check below for some more ideas on things to add to the filter:wink:
More words to add for both audio and video :) Click Me

Hey Birdy
Im feelin real dispare here. I no wma files have isues but arnt you asking us to
thro away the baby with the bath water.
I have around 1200 good wma files, that I offer for share in many ways, I will add, not coppywright protected. so are you saying I will need to convert all of them, or I will be waisting my time.
Peace.

i can see where your coming from mick, but lets face it... if people are being flooded by a particular file type, and they have the option to block them out they will... may be overkill, but to the searchers its effective

mickjapa108 December 4th, 2006 04:04 AM

So some mp3 files are also filled with crap do we ban them next.
Sounds like bendin before breaking. or doin there job for them.

PS. Open Sharing! Well still a little bit open. There MUST be another way Please.
Peace.

Brad.G December 4th, 2006 04:40 AM

i filter them out, personally because so many are dodgy. alot more dodgy wma's oppose to mp3's i.m.o

mickjapa108 December 4th, 2006 05:20 AM

Hey Brad I know what your sayin man, im just thinking of the 700 verses of
Bhagavad Gita in audio I now have to convert and title all over again.
Its gona take me ages.
Before I begin on a larger Work, Srimad Bhagavatam, is there a safe format that is not so rare that no one will download them.

Ps This is not Copy Right.

The reason we ask people to filter out .wma are here:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,11...1/article.html

.mp3 files do not do this. If it was just some of them being crap/junk then it would just be the same as with .mp3 files.

You could add them to bitzi with explanation on what they are, then people interested can just magnet link to them. http://bitzi.com download the bitcollider to add files to the database.

Also when people browse you, they will be able to see the .wma files even if .wma has been added to the keyword filter.

Sleepless
are you saying Evidence exists That Viruses have been detected in wma files
I read the link weeks ago,and only understood a risk of (audio adds) did I miss
an important point.
I have added loads with Bitcollider, video/audio/and many others even before
I joined the forum, Im one of the converted, (BITZI is the buissnes).
You Cheer me up, to hear when Im Broused, wma files can still be seen.
So thats why the mucky files still apear although added to word filter when
brousing someone else.

Ps. Can you sujest a format for new conversion project.
Peace.

Sleepless December 4th, 2006 06:36 AM

They can redirect to anywhere loading anything

converting the wma files is probably no good, but if you have the originals, then either high bitrate mp3 (320 Kbps) or flac (lossless) are the most popular formats

Also you could make a torrent for sharing the files (since there are so many, then maybe many torrents (eg. part1, part2, etc.))

mickjapa108 December 4th, 2006 07:20 AM

Sorry Sleepless, Torrents im already lost.
If you have a link to explain in simple terms, that an old hippie may grasp
What are Torrants, ill be off n truckin in persute of knowage.:newspaper:
If you have the time.:Smilywais:

Ps. Other points of post well taken. Thanks:idea:
Namaste.

The only reason I mentioned it is, that Limewire will be supporting BitTorrent as well as the gnutella network. You can read here what torrents are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

It's the most effective P2P network for large files. When making a torrent you add entire folders.

Let's say you have a non-copyright DVD, that you made yourself:

If using the gnutella network you could never share it effectively, because you only share single files. Also there is a 2GB limit on files, so you could not put a 1+ hour DVD in a .zip or .rar archive and share that.

If you made a torrent, you would add the entire folder containing all the files no problem

thank you all for your tips. I am enlightened!

WOW!:yikes: What a read:dance: Ive not read anything like that since Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy:surf: The Origanal book.
Maybe it should be made a sticky, If Torants are coming to LimeWire
People should be ready for them.

Ps.amidoodles, you most welcome anytime, come back soon.
Peace.

I would, but I would like to see where this torrent support is going first. It's in the Beta right now, and the advanced options are a bit slim.

Like for one, you have no option in Limewire to make a torrent, only download them. Also it doesn't display the amount of seeds/peers and gives you no option to start and stop torrents apart from removing them out of Limewire completely.

I have made some requests on things that should be added, and I am currently waiting to see where it goes, before doing much more with it.

Using a program like Azureus, you could make torrents from your files, and you would still be able to download those torrents through Limewire.

I am keeping a few very rare torrents alive with limited bandwidth and I need to see how many people want or have each one to give the rarest preference. Limewire does not allow me to do that.

Examples would be:

The very first album from [Edit], which was never released (Original Studio version)

[Edit] (Bootleg)

A [Edit] Unplugged concert (Bootleg)

[Edit] MTV Unplugged 1990 (Bootleg)

These things are impossible to buy anywhere. These are mostly .flac torrents as well, so up to 7-800 MB, thus not very easy to share on Gnutella, with only one seed.

Edited to comply with the House Rules.
Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form.
