can't play everywhere
 

Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas! :yahoo:

I'm new to this and have made a couple CD's of my favorite stuff...but I can't play them in my car stereo. I can play them on our house stereo at least. Hubby thinks it has something to do with the CD's I bought, but a guy at the stereo store said some stereos block downloaded music from playing because they're technically illegal. Does anyone know the answer to why some stereos will play a burned CD and some won't??

either the 'guy at the stereo store' is a complete dillhole or he needs to clean his glass belly button...sheeshus..won't play dowloaded music:cheesy: ..what a farking edited

some cd players will NOT play CD-r (i.e. CDs you burn)...and that's that...of course I am assuming you correctly made an audio cd (not a CD full of mp3s)..

Not knowing much about this, many of the songs I downloaded did say MP3, but I'm still able to listen to them on the house stereo.

the question is not whether the downloads were mp3s (which statistically speaking they were), but rather if the CD you burned was an audio CD or not...you would make that choice via your burning program...again to play in the vast majority of CD players you must make an audio CD...a data CD of mp3s will usually not play unless the player supports mp3 playback...do this, put the CD in your computer and explore it...if its a data CD of mp3s, the files will show up as mp3s...if its an audio CD they will show as files with .cda extensions....audio CD or not, still there is a % of players that will not play CDr's, and this is many times an important aspect when buying technology which also applies to buying a DVD player...one has to make sure the device supports the intended use the buyer plans to put it to..

Thanks for the detailed answer...very concise. Jesus. How the heck do people learn all this stuff?? BTW, I did check the disc on my computer...it only indicated that it was an MP3. Bottom line, I guess my vehicle stereo just will not play these CD's...

very interesting....is your 'house stereo' using a DVD player as the source for playing CDs?, as afaik most all standalone CD players play audio cds, whereas most all DVD players these days have mp3 playback capability..

either way, your problem is your car...again, you have to make an audio CD, as obviously your car's player does not have mp3 playback ability...

in your burning program there will be an option to create audio CDs, and said option should be right in your face as it were....

Yep, our house stereo is using a DVD players. I will make sure I create an audio CD in future for the vehicle.

i also found that a friend of mine had an older computer that wouldn't play my burned cd's.
what i figured out was, the speed i was burning (40x at that time) was too fast for hers. ;)

Just out of interest, I never burn my audio CDs at the top speed (i.e. 40x plus) I tend to go for 12x or 16x whichever is the lowest.
