![]() I have songs on my wmp that were in mp3 format. Not all of them but some now are listed as wma format. They would play before as mp3's but they come up under red lettering and will not play on my wmp. I get this message. " Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available." Thanks for any assistance. BTW, it is not a server problem. |

![]() Thanks for the reply. I knew not to download them but these are cd's I had in my wmp library and were playable as mp3 and now will not play as noted in original post. I am trying to find out what converted them and how to convert them back. Thanks again. |

![]() Perhaps they are still mp3's but simply have the WMP icon on them because WMP is your default audio player. Could that be the case? Another possibility is ... depending on which version of LW you're using, there was a bug with WMP if you added the files to WMP's playlist but then used the Describe function in LW's Library. It has something to do with WMP not being able to read compressed id3 tags. This would corrupt the files & WMP would no longer be able to play them. Could that be the case? |

![]() No, they have wma not wmp on them. The ones that were converted were no downloads but ripped Cds'. They were on my computer before LW. I have played them since I have had lw on my computer. Perhaps something corrupted them from another lw download but seems odd that it did not corrupt the entire library. Thanks |

![]() Like Lotr says, DID you alter or describe them at all in L/W. It dose sound like a file recignision bug. Try removing the ones marked in red from WMP then somewhere in settings Rescan your COMP for media files (sorry I havent used WMP for ages) its not running on my comp, so this is from memory. Post if it dose or not work cos it helps others. Peace,

![]() if you rip cd's to wmp, they will be wma format. don't know if you can change rip settings on wmp to allow say mp3. if i rip cd's to realplayer as mp3, then import to wmp, it stays as mp3. realplayer you can set to rip as mp3 or m4a for instance. i-tunes auto converts wma's to mpeg audio or aac audio to allow for i-pod. |
