I used LimeWire years ago, bought Pro (perhaps from a scam site, who knows!), got disappointed, quit using it but now I'm back. Most of you young folks out there use/know LW (rather than the other stupid sites) so that's where the most P2P action seems to live!

At this point, I'm ready to fork over my $18.88 and take the plunge to Pro but I'm looking for some answers before I jump in and get disgusted again. Is there anyone around tonight who might be able to offer some assistance either as a LW guru or even someone who uses it a lot?

As I look at the posts (i've been lurking about an hour now) they all appear to be rather dated . . . mind you, I could be looking/lurking in the wrong areas but, hey, I stated "clueless" in my subject line, that should be enough of a caveat!!

Not sure what your question is. But yes, try out LW Basic before jumping into anything.

Thanks LotR, I should have known you'd be poking around; your posts have been very helpful to me these last couple of days! I have been using Basic for a week or so now and I'm not seeing any new features; that's why I was toying with heading to Pro.

- I'm getting tons of hits but apparently not many actually 'on-line', they go directly to "need more sources". I thought with Pro the hits might be of a higher 'quality', and that more were legit, viable hits . . . yes? No?

- I'm getting tons of 'pranks' and junk hits. I don't care about a hilarious Steven Spielberg phone prank, didn't ask for anything even remotely related and could care less. I thought with Pro some of the junk would be filtered out before it reached me . . . yes? No?

- I read where LW is forever, apparently $18.88 gets you a lasting committment. I then read I get "Free Updates for up to 6 months", after 6 months I need to pay whenever an update appears . . . have I mis-interpreted that?

Again, thanks for your help. I'm having a hard time seeing where the advantages of Pro over Basic are yet.

There are no extras with Pro. The difference is simple. You connect with 5 ultrapeers instead of 3, which helps searching for rarer material. And the maximum no. of hosts you can download per file is 10 compared to Basic's 8. Pro is often considered more-so as a donation toward the future development of LW.
