and the name that used to be there is gone. All the music in the "share" file belongs to this new name and the old name has disappeared. All kinds of interesting music in there and I thought what the hell..i don't know how long this is going to be here..i drag some songs over to my playlists....but they wouldn't drag. Though that is the least of my surprise at all this...a friend who knows more than me suggested that someone was downloading my music from itunes to their i pod. My limewire was not on at the time. Though a few days ago..i saw this new name along side the other name(previous owner). So this new person has been in my itunes before. I went to limewire and unchecked "sharing files".

Anyway...any music that had been in the "share" file in itunes before is now all gone and i have this new person's music.

How did this happen? Whats going on?

i do have the Pro version and my friend thinks this "share" spot under the itunes store icon is part of the Pro version as its not on her. This is an imac by the way.

iTunes has it's own built-in sharing for people on a local network. You can listen to the tunes others share on the same network (like in a home or a dorm) through their iTunes, but as you found, you can't import or save those tunes.

Play around with the sharing tab in iTunes Preferences, and also look at your LW's preferences for iTunes to see more.

by the way, iPhoto in OS X 10.4 also has that sharing feature.
