Believe the hype After a few days of negative press for Gnutella via trojans installed in Bearshare & Limewire(basic) I feel a need to redress the balance.
Limewire the programme, not the bundled crap, most definitely IS running the Gnutella network.
The ultrapeer way of doing things,& all the work that has gone into implementing it is paying off.
I know that sometimes there won't be as many search results as there once was,yet you can still usually find what you are looking for.Once this new ultrapeer is downloaded more & incorporated into other Gnutella clones then low search results will no longer be a concern.
I was an original beta-tester for Freepeer's Defender a good few months ago,at the time I was just as impressed with Defender(minus the swarmed downloads) as I am now with Limewire.Sadly Vinnie Falco suspended Defender (for reasons he has only recently stated) yet their will be in the near future a new version...But Gnutella's future is already here in the shape of Limewire 2+
To be able to run a Gnutella clone,in the background with no bandwidth loss,(apart from uploads) is a pleasure.I used to be,in my dial-up days,a smash and grabber, that is log on to G-net,get what I want, allow any uploads to finish, then log off of G-net.
There is no need for this anymore.Limewire runs silently in the background, working only when it's needed.
No ****-kissing intended, but I take my hat off to you LW guys.
P.S
Thanks to TruStarwarrior for giving me reason enough to purchase the Pro version. |
