Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. HELP!!! w/ Limewire (save folder not valid) Ok I have windows XP, I have used limewire a million times, then I buy a new ipod and I screwed something up with my save folder when I was trying to transfer all my songs to the new ipod. Now when I try to open limewire, it says, "your save folder is not valid. It could have been deleted, you may not have permission to write to it or there may ne another problem. please choose a different folder." Well I'm pretty sure I deleted the folder but after that message comes up the limewire freezes up and I can't get into it to even change the folder. So I tried uninstalling the whole program and then reinstalling it and changing the folder there but it doesn't work. I created a new folder that has all my song files in it and i moved that folder all over my computer from mydocuments to program files etc. but no matter what, everytime I try to reinstall, it still comes up with the same message and then freezes up. I need help desperately, I'm going into download withdrawl!!!! |

Try deleting your LW preference folder while LW is completely shut down. See points 2 & 3 in this thread: Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should! This will reset all your option settings, so make a note of them first.

Ok, I tried everything suggested and still the same problem. I searched files and folders for anything with lime wire, I deleted everything. I uninstalled limewire again. Then re-downloaded the program. I tries opening a new folder to save my limewire files to. I right clicked on the desktop icon and changed the properties and made sure I had the correct compatibility. I made sure I was the correct user. Yet no matter what I do, everytime I try to open Limewire it keeps saying "your save folder is not valid..." I really appreciate your help, maybe you have another suggestion. Any reccomendations for a different file sharing program that I could use in the meantime? I really need new songs! Thank you!!! - Also, I totally screwed up my iTunes library because I must have deleted the folder that it was getting the song files from. I was able to retrieve the song files but now I have to go through 600 something songs one by one to reconnect them with iTunes in order to not loose all my playlists. I've been spending hours per day trying to figure this crap out and I keep screwing it up more! I'm ready to just smash the hell out of my computer. I've tried everything first I have to say I really appreciate the responses of people trying to help me. Before I deleted all the limewire stuff I copied all my song files to a different new folder. Then I uninstalled and deleted everything that said limewire including hidden files and folders and stuff in the recycle bin. Then I reinstalled and durring the install wizard I chose me new folder as the location but when it opens it still freezes up, right at the point where it says "loading messages" a window pops up that says "your save folder is invalid..." and then the green limewire box it just stuck there saying "loading messages" and the only way to get rid of it is to shut down my computer. Originally, when I first installed limewire, before I had any of this trouble, the save folder was just whatever default folder that limewire chose. At some point, that folder must have gotten too full or I don't know how it happened but limewire started saving my files to a different folder so I had 2, one was old songs and one was new songs and all new songs automaticly went into the new folder. But When I got my new ipod, I was concerned about how to get all my songs into the new iTunes library cuz I had never done it before. I moved all the new songs and old songs into a new folder together and deleted the old folders. Then when I installed the new itunes it copied all me songs in twice so I guess I didn't have to do any of that and then I had to go and delete every other song that was a double. Then I tried using limewire for the first time since the new ipod and that's when all the trouble started. anybody know of any other good sites or programs I can try using in the meantime to get songs? |

Bigal9693 I think you have somehow corrupted your registry entry for LW, I would suggest that you use a registry cleaner, like regclean, before reinstalling LW. And make sure that you use the offline installer (rather than the online one). UK Bob |

and....rename your existing saved folder (and its associated incomplete folder in the save directory)..then....create new, empty, folders of the same names....then try a new install...
