My thoughts on Limewire Pro Hi Guys, I recently bought Limewire Pro and will not be recommending anybody do the same. When I pay for a product, I expect it to work. I expect there to be answers to my problems if it doesn't work. Unfortunately neither of these things is true. When I pay for a product, I don't expect to have to go looking for hostiles.txt files somewhere on the the net, all the time watching out for bad versions of said file, before copying it to some obscure directory on my computer. When I pay for a product, I expect automatic downloads of patches to do this sort of thing for me. A most dissapointing experince. |

Well Medical Hostile.txt is not part of the Limewire program/application, it has been compiled and provided by one of the forum members as a free service to LW users. Also, if you have bought LW Pro from the LW org., and not from a scam site, then you are entitled to free updates, upgrades and patches from the unique URL that was sent to you for as long as your subscription lasts. It seems that you came in here backwards while doing handstands on the ceiling because you have everything the wrong way around. You know, you are obviously an intelligent person, it's a pity that you did not bother to do a little research or ask a few questions before making your upside down pronouncement. UK Bob |

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, UK Bob. I bought the app from the proper place, and indeed have recently downloaded and installed an update. I don't see why I am doing everything the wrong way round. Your reply in a way backs me up. When I buy software, why should I have to do research and ask questions to solve problems with it? I pay my money so I don't have to do that. Expected with freeware, yes. Out of order when I have paid for it. I should be able to go to the person I gave the money to and say "sort this out". Instead, I have to use something that, in your words, has been compiled and provided by one of the forum members as a free service to LW users. Further to all that, I can't see any discernable benefit of the pro version compared to the free one. It has all left a sour taste. Finally, you are right. I am intelligent. I didn't mean to make it obvious though! |

ermmm...don't know about anybody else here, but I stay fully clothed when working on my computer! as far as this subject, specifically the concept of a hostiles.txt file...well, think about it...and think about how p2p is even able to 'legally' operate...the inclusion of such a list would just give the MPAA/RIAA more ammunition in their protests... I've found PeerGuardian to be a far better and less cpu intensive solution to blocking known dillholes (can anybody say Macrovision?)...of course blocking is relative, they can still DDOS the hell out of you....

Words of Experience Medical Wondering Why has explained why we volunteers do what we do and the fact that we come from all over the world with varying experiences helps, I believe, rather than hinders. I do understand why you are upset but I seriously think you have taken the wrong approach. You said: Quote:
And when you think of all the PCs in the world, each with it’s own configuration, it is almost a miracle that any application at all can run on the majority of these machines. You also said (and this struck me as a disparaging remark): Quote:
For example, I’m using Word97 to write this post which I have enhanced with both Microsoft and non-Microsoft add-ons/plug-ins. That does not mean that the original product was bad, even though it took several incarnations before MS produced a stable version, it just means that the extra facilities I wanted, e.g. the ability to use PDF documents, was not native to the original application. Finally, as programs in general become more complex, and users demand more features, it will become increasingly difficult to get that “once friendly app” to just run on your PC. UK Bob |

Now my Thoughts, Enough with the FLUFF. Look, you might have paid what, $25.00 for 6 months or maybe a little more if you bought for a year. You are possible going to download hundreds or even thousands of COPYRIGHTED files for FREE. If you paid the $.99 they require at iTunes, then think about the price tag for that service. That doesn’t include movie files that you will download from the Limewire network. The least expensive DVD that I can find retail is around $10.00. My suggestion to you would be read, like I did, every Thread and Post from about the last year to find out the correct way to use Limewire. I can download an mp3 file, with 14 hosts connecting, from between 250 and 300kbs depending on the hosts I’m connected to. It only takes a few seconds. Movie files with 14 hosts, about an hour for a 700mb file. I just can’t understand how someone can buy Pro and expect miracles. You aren’t buying a $400.00 MS program or $600.00 Photoshop Program, so do a little research, learn how to use it, and move on. My 2 cents. Hope I didn’t offend anyone. |

I have to say....I rather agree with medical...when a person pays for something, no matter what its intended use, that person expects for it to work....maybe not flawlessly (that can be determined by the cost/benefit ratio of the product), but it should work... by some of the arguments presented above I would have no just cause to hate Steinberg for selling costly music software that has many problems and has been repeatedly proven to NOT do what it is advertised to do...what's the argument against my feelings, that I might record music that could make me rich?...pffffffffft...my best recordings to date have been using an 8 track cassette deck, not this rather costly bug ridden, paid beta tester software!

Am I just Lucky?? I paid for mine and I cound'nt ask for anything more. I have never had a minutes trouble for almost a year and a half. I am kinda of anal when it comes to making something work, or about a lot of things. I think what you get out of something is what you put into it. (if that makes scents0 |
