Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Thanks michwayne, thought PRO was forever when I added it last year. I did have a turbo-charged indication, but not now. As for Limewire itself, seems I was scammed into purchasing life membership, if it truly is free s/w. But honestly, I would know better than to download from some bizarre site...anyways, is Limewire free? the new 4.14 version? thanks. |

ukbobboy01. who do you think you are? Responding to LW queries and referring to those complaintants as novices. You're a jerk. I was long on the internet before google and yahoo, posting on alt boards. And I'm not a teenager and not elderly to be scammed by something like this. Hey, read other posts and the others who have similar complaints before you spew for another post count. Oh, no....but you're the internet genius guru.....ohhhh... Your comments to watch our CC, etc. are crap....idiotic common sense. Get a life. |

Known Scam Sites (click on link) ... if it is possible for you to find out who it was ... though it was a long time ago, let us know. Some take your money then give you the link to the LW Basic download page. Some will give you a version of pro or basic or a version they have sometimes added something to. There are so many scammers out there. BTW I can assure you UKBob did not intend to upset/insult you. He was speaking generally. Since it's often the people who are new to p2p programs who get taken/tricked/scammed. Particularly when most of the scam sites advertise (sponsor search engines such as google); http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...s-success.html Oh & ... get your $$$ BACK!!! (music members) |

I approached this forum for real answers and got labelled a novice right off the bat and didn't accept someone who spoke generally. Generally, this is not good approach, especially when I am intelligent and do not speak MSN or bullshit. Please read my and other histories that have been posted these past days, describing the particulars of LimeWire problems. If I was scammed for LW BASIC, good for them, but I definitely GOT scammed by PRO LimeWire. I got double-whammied. BTW, I DO NOT purchase over the internet. Good day. |

NEVER has the LW site mentioned anything about "Lifetime". That's a word that is popularly used by scam sites. Perhaps a simple misunderstanding on your part. I've seen your complaint once in a while too. Though not by many. The 12 month offer is very very new. I'm glad to see it. I wasn't so happy to see the price increase earlier in the year. But the 12 mth deal takes the price back to just under the old price over a 6 mth period. As you said in another post in another thread, we could gab about this all day. It is a valid point you make about the period of support offered by buying pro. Though it is listed on their site, it could be more obvious. You can use your Pro for as long as you like. There's no compulsion to update. Great as long as you keep a copy of your installer. Pro offers, connection to more ultrapeers, ability to download from more peers per file, a better search engine reaching further into the network for the rarer files (won't notice any difference with popular files), & no upgrade window as you get with Basic when you open it. Oh & support & updates for the period you paid for. |

Thanks for the info Lord of the Rings...see, this sort of info upfront makes things a lot easier and understandable, instead of a bunch of posts telling me how stupid I am. You mention....you can use your Pro for as long as you like. There's no compulsion to update. Great as long as you keep a copy of your installer. So this is the part I don't understand. Use my PRO as long as I like? Keep a copy of my installer? Sorry, it seems I belong in anoother forum, another universe....what? I have LimeWire, I have cable, my computer is ON 24/7.....I have many hits and uploads. But, I would like to talk to you about the rarer files, what are those, are these the Frank Zappa songs I can't get? respectfully, a LW fan...truly... |
| ||||
Yes ... the files that not so many people have. You may need to download it from someone in russia or in a corner of the usa or ... etc. lol For rarer files, it best to try to search at different times of the day. People come & go off the network all the time over a 24 hr, 1 week or 2 week period. I find that if a person has similar files, I make a note of their ip address (hoping their ip is static & not dynamic), & try to direct connect to them or search files they have so ... getting in indirect contact with others with similar files. It seems to make searches improve too for the material I am after. That's because we are unable to reach the entire network at one time ... at least trying to reach that section of the network that has similar files. Sharing similar files also helps with searches (at least if people are uploading them. And can also hopefully browse those uploading from you.) Also try varying your search .... search only title or only artist or only album, etc. And not only music type search but general also. Try varying the search criteria & words you use. You can also try searching albumwraps ( How to Downld whole albums & Albumwrap). BTW I have also downloaded FrankZ files. (Please don't mention copyright titles on the forum.) Yes ... if you are happy with the version you have .. there's no great need to update. Whilst LW tries to keep the gnutella network improving by making improvements to the program & keeping up with changes made by all other gnutella programs, there's no major demand on you to do so. (Though some of the very early versions have been banned by both LW & many other gnutella programs due to their poor behaviour on the network. Likewise for some other earlier versions of other gnutella programs. Thus they won't connect to anybody when attempting to download.) |
| |||
Gosh, isn't that a scary thought.....just me, you, and some guy in Siberia, downloading our Frank......such fantastic music. I have varied my search criteria, but probably not as sporadic as you suggest. We're so spoiled, wanting things instantaneously, and I'm certain I am one of those with no patience, having to share the computer with teenagers. I like LimeWire....a lot..I keep it open for all other members to share my library.....as I share from them. thanks, Colleen. |

Well Colleen It seems that my blunt style has got me in trouble again, as LOTR indicated I was using the term "novice" generally simply to illustrate how these scam sites extract money from working people, so much money that the crooks running them are millionaires. Crooks stealing money from working people, without any chance of being sanctioned, makes me angry and if that makes me a jerk then so be it. The thing is, it is so easy to set up a scam site, especially if that site is set up where western law can't touch it, and if these crooks with the site can get banking facilities then they have a license to print money while selling absolutely nothing. So, I am sorry if you feel that I was attacking you, I assure you that I was not, I feel angry that ordinary people from all over the world are being duped on a daily basis, thus generating millions of pounds/dollars for these crooks who just sit back and laugh. Being scammed is no joke, that's why I said you should contact your credit card company and get your money back. Because every dollar/pound the crooks keep a working person looses. I hope I have explained myself better this time. UK Bob |
