What is an"avi" file and why won't it play on my media player?

avi files are safe but you cant play then in windows media player try this player it plays avi and more click this link VLC media player - Overview

You can play them with WMP, you just need the codecs....

For XP this codec pac is very good
Download XP Codec Pack 2.0.8 - XP Codec Pack is one of the most complete codec pack

Or for Vista this pac
Vista Codec Package v4.4.7 Beta 4a (freeware)

thinks wondering why so I didnt need vlc media player then did I all I needed was that codec pack

VLC is the best player in my opinion, but having the codec pac is also a good thing to have...

anyhow I got both but how dose it effect my WMP or do I have to use it separately?

not working 4 me i dowloaded codec for vista and still wont play
