crazy ad where song is supposed to be..

first,, hi. i am a newbie. tried kazaa(sorry!), but wouldnt run. a friend (google)told me to try limewire, and i love it! so far so good. i got a few songs in my list, but there is this one, that seems to be corrupt. its called ***** by *****. anyway, i first noticed that the size is wrong, of all available dl. 19k and it should be much more, like 39k. so after dl, its just an advertisement for some website. each and every single hit for this song, reveals this website ad. anybody else try this?
thanks for any advice...
peace out

There are heaps of fake & infected files being shared on the network! If the file size looks wrong (too small, or suss in any way)...leave the file alone! If an mp3 file's showing up with a file size in the hundreds of kilobytes (eg 119 KB) then it's way too small to be a real mp3 file & is probably an infected piece of junk.

If a file shows up with a file size in the thousands of kilobytes (eg 4370 KB) then it's looking like a real file.

Make sure that you're using a good AV program. Keep it updated & use it to scan all files that you download, before you open them;)

thanks for quick reply,. i use adware... lavasoft. plus norton. the thing is, all files under this song, are the same. all of them. at first, dl starts, then, "needs new source. then after dl, its an ad for a website, not a song. aint that a hoot? someone else try it! i still need the song, but dont know how to get around that stupid ad.

As Birdy said, the file(s) is fake so forget about that particular file because there is no song in it. The next thing you should do is configure your browser so that it no longer responds to these fake commands. Mordern browsers, such as Opera, Firefox, etc., can be set to not respond but I don't think Internet Explorer can.

No, I would not use the word "ever", I would say "for now". As for "future innocence", I would say that there is no better teacher than "experience", i.e. we learn by making mistakes and finding solutions.

Basically, I am saying that there is no way, at this moment, to recognise these fake files so you have to deal with them as best you can, that is why I suggested that you configure your browser to resist their bogus commands.

May I also suggest that you use "Bitzi" as a way of avoiding these fake music and video files in the future.
