Default Refining 'Genres'

There are a fixed number of genres and I'd like to find other ones that are not listed.

How do I refine the Genre to find what I'm looking for. For example:

Australian Country instead of just country?

Country Music (like our American) but searching for French, German, Japanese, Scandinavian, Dutch, artisists, etc., when I don't know all the artists names but want to see what is out there. The same with bluegrass.

What about Alternative Country or Americana? Those are subgenres for just plain ole country. And there's one for Native American but none for Traditional and Contemporary Hawaiian. I search for some of the artists but find nothing. I know they have CDs because I have them and just need the MP3s.

With that said, how do I refine my search for MP3s only and not other formats?

It would be nice if there would be a blank genre where we could add one of the above or anything else and have it search correctly instead of pulling the same stuff from the category selected.

This is very frustrating.

You should be able to double-click in the Genre box and then you can enter whatever genre you're looking for.

To search only for mp3s, go to tools, then Options, then keywords and type in .wma and .m4a. The search results now should only be mp3s.

Sorry nickojones, mp3 and m4a are not genres they are file types, LK-Fan was asking about types of music like rock, pop, country, etc.

I know - I was responding to him asking, "With that said, how do I refine my search for MP3s only and not other formats?"

I agree with LK-Fan. I can't search for Genre 'Rockabilly': can get round it to some extent by including the genre in the title box of course. Time the gender options were amended a bit.

I want to search for Australian country or Country Christmas or country music from other countries, like Sweden, Japan, etc. I'm not sure who all the artists are from those countries. Plus, when I try and refine a search, I get an empty box.

Sometimes I guess it's also what time you're on line and what time the target country is on line.

I think there should be a way to add a genre that's not there.

Same way with artist. If you select one artist who shares the last name with another artist, it sometimes doesn't give who you're looking for. I'll put in Bobby Cash and get Johnny Cash. Or I'll type in The Wolverines and get the University of Michigan fight song. The search function doesn't refine itself enough.

I also want to get MP3s (can't convert the others to CDAs) only and above 128k but not so high that they take up too much memory. I wish there were some decent instructions on the site somewhere on how to use it.
