Ew virus thing? Hello, I'm having quite the problem. I had to download this audiobook for school. Sherlock Holmes - Hound of the Baskervilles. Anyways I found a file. Downloaded. Open. Nothing happened and I deleted the file. Since then Limewire always opens automatically. I uninstalled it but I would get a message every 30 seconds saying that there was files missing and that limewire could no be opened. So this I guess means that this unwanted file was opening limewire automatically for some purpose. I deleted the file and the proplem persists. Another bad thing about this is that when I reinstall limewire (which I have done several times) it says something about an invalid save location. When I choose my normal location (which is not the default) I cannot change it again. Infact I cannot access options or configure content filters. Very annoying. Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem or any idea what I downloaded? Thanks. |

A very important thing to ensure when downloading something like an audiobook is always make sure it's the genuine thing. Was the file size below 1000 KB? If so, it's spam and by the looks of it you were one of the unlucky ones who got a virus. The idiots who put viruses on the network often deliberately make sure it looks genuine, file size and all, so it sometimes cannot be prevented - it's just plain bad luck if you download it. Uninstall Limewire - it's incredibly unlikely it will work again now- and try, using My Computer, to locate the file as it has clearly stayed on your computer despite you having deleted the file. Get someone with a decent knowledge of computers to help you - there's a better chance that they'll recognise any trouble on your computer. One last thing - if you often download audiobooks, getting Limewire firewalled may be a solution - I know it can be annoying but hopefully it will make sure this doesn't happen again. |
