Mac - stuffed (.sit) won't expand with stuffit

When I download programs, audio etc, roughly half of the .sit files have their icon missing and wont open with stuffit, even when launching stuffit first. They are ladelled as Limewire docs and nothing can be done - why? and how do I open them? SOme are OK - why some and not others?:confused:
