Default play_mp3.exe

When ever I download a video and start to play it, I get a pop up window stating I have to run or save the following executable PLAY_MP3.exe. It appears when I try to view the video with Window Media Player or Real Player. I have not had to do this before, is this something new?

Yes, it might be some new malware on your system.
PLAY_MP3[1]..EXE, Spyware Remove
If you use Google to look for play_mp3.exe you might find some more info.

NEVER run a .exe file that you didn't download, or that you're not sure is safe.

Have you scanned your computer with your AV?? If you don't have any security programs, please look at these...they're free.
Anti-virus
avast!

AVG free

Avira Antivir

Antispyware etc
Spybot S & D (free)

Malwarebytes (free version)

Ad-Aware Free

Always make sure that you're using a good antivirus program. Keep it updated & use it to scan all files that you've downloaded, BEFORE you open them.

If you need more help then you should go to a site that specialises in malware removal.

If you mean Play_mp3.exe then no, it's not safe. It's malware.

Check out the links below for more info. If you Google play_mp3.exe you'll find even more info

play_mp3.exe - What is play_mp3.exe?

PLAY_MP3[1]..EXE, Prevx

If you've downloaded & run play_mp3.exe then you need to update your AV program & scan your computer.
If you don't have an AV program installed, see post #2 of this thread for some good free ones. I'd also scan with Malwarebytes (see link in post #2) - make sure to update the program before you scan. See how you go after that. If in doubt, you could scan with other antispy/adware programs as shown in post #2 or in the link below
