Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Pornography Today was the first time I searched for a particular subject matter in the form of a photograph. There doesn't seem to be any way to screen search results before they are downloaded. One of the photos was purely pornographic and no hint as to the subject matter of this material was indicated in the name of the photo. This photo was as offensive as it was disgusting. The photograph obviously had been manipulated to make the subject of the photo look revolting. The person posting this picture does not have a static web site and I did block the IP address twice. When I tried to identify the photo as trash nothing happened. It seems the content of a search can be rigged so as to circumvent any possibility of warning people that it is trash. I am so angry I could scream. I do not want this garbage on my computer and would like to hang the person posting this picture by his own entrails. What can be done, if anything, to prevent searches from displaying pornographic material? There should be a way to screen material before it's downloaded. This very disturbed person should be found out and exposed and prevented from using Limewire to distribute this filth. Now I am reluctant to download any material produced from Limewire searches not knowing beforehand what I'm getting. I feel violated! itsbrkn |

pornography I suspect many warnings have been posted but I'm relatively new to Limewire. The file extensions you speak of in terms of photo and written documentation, I didn't even notice. I'm most familiar with music files and their extensions. But I assure you I won't be downloading any future photos from this website. itsbrkn |

pornography This is written in response to Remoc. I am sick to death of responses to my threads with criticism and mockery. I am the victim here and I don't care how many times posts appear in this forum, I don't spend my days and nights reading every one, and I'm tired of apologizing for being ignorant about things I have little or no knowledge of. This file came to me disguised as harmless. These files are so small there isn't time to preview them before the download is complete. There's also the issue of unsuspecting teenagers seeing this filth. How do we protect them? When I participate in these forums I do so with the expectation of being helped or in this case, just understood. You, on the other hand, seem to have made a career of answering threads, over 1600 replies, I believe. There doesn't seem to be any subject you don't have an oopinion about. You present yourself as being very knowledgeable in the techno world, but you gave me nothing of an explanation or solution to my question, which leads me to believe you are far less enlightened than you would like people to believe. If you don't have any useful information, don't respond. If I want to be criticized, I'll go talk to my mother, thank you very much! itsbrkn |

itsbkn, I didn't see anything offensive at all in Remoc's reply, he states that he understands your frustration ! Photos are best gotten off google, flickr, and the millions of other such image sites.just type in images. On LWire, try and avoid .jpg files or .jpeg files or .bitmap image files, most .jpg files are trash anyway ! Stay happy, Newbee2

Well... Sorry you feel that way and took my post as a bunch of Blabbering BS. I did answer your question. "Don't download that type of file with LW" unless you want to take the chance of that happening. As far as what I said about how many times this has been posted on the Forums... People don't seem to want to try and find a solution to there problem so they just ask the same questions over and over day after day. The Admins, Super Mods, Mods, and Valued Members are all Volunteers on these Forums and Get absolutly NOTHING for there time and energy spent helping others. The only Gratification that we recieve, is when someone Thanks us for our efforts and believe me its far and few between. So with that said, I will apologize to you for what ever ruffeled your feathers. Sorry Everyone could make an attempt to help themselves by just doing a little reading and research here on the Forums. Thats why there is a Search Function in the upper right corner. About my many Posts... I happen to enjoy helping others. Not only do I dedicate a lot of time here but I also do a lot of Volunteer work when I have the time. Try It you may Like it. |

People seem to think, something is available then I can grab it. This is a naive state of mind and deserves no excuse. Just like their are bad people in the world, there are bad people using the Internet. Limewire is a program for God's sake, not some webpage. The people you are downloading from can be located everywhere in the world. In fact they don't even have to be using Limewire. Limewire gives the user the means to connect to the Gnutella network. It doesn't sort or censor what's on there. Anymore crap and I close this thread. I would have done so already, if there wasn't another Mod involved. Oh and by the way. Solution to your problem: Since you have no intension on doing any research regarding anything, the only way you will stay safe is disconnect your internet. Problem solved. Easy isn't it P.S. Remoc uses much of his spare time here helping people without getting a penny's worth for it. In future I expect down to earth questions and responses or GTFO. P.P.S. pron is not illegal and also it is usually up to the person looking/watching whether it is filth and that spelling error isn't an error. Thank the filters on the forum for it. I have decided to lock it anyway. If the original poster wants to start a new thread with a more down to Earth approach, then that is welcomed, but this one was getting wayyy out of hand. And itsbkn, next time you blatantly attack the responce of a Moderator here, a Moderator that was just trying to help even, I will personally be the one to ban you. So consider this your warning. Edit 2: The rest of this thread is other threads that have been merged into this one Last edited by Sleepless; March 9th, 2008 at 01:52 PM. Reason: typo |

pornography Sleepless; Thank you for your useful and timely help and understanding. Your lack of compassion is overwhelming. I believe this is an open forum for discussing anything. If you had read and understood my original thread, I was venting. As I said, I had no way of knowing, and still don't, what is and isn't explicit material. I stay away from anything that even remotely seems out of place. As a moderator, I believe you accept the responsibility for your responses. They should not be critical, harsh, blaming, or cynical. I appreciate the time and energy it takes to volunteer in any venue. I have also done volunteer work and found it most rewarding. Regardless, I will not have it inferred that I am stupid or lazy. I have been working with computers for the past 15 years and most problems I solve myself. One, because it helps me understand the inner workings of my computer and programs, and two, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment to fix things on my own. But the issue here is pornography. It's a problem that undermines the internet as a whole and is dangerous and potentially hazardous to all. I will live the rest of my life with that image burned into my memory. This is not something I look forward to. As I said, I am the victim here. I didn't ask for this nor was there any way to know what I was downloading. This was a .jpeg file and seemed harmeless enough. Nor am I naive. I was the unknowning recipient of offensive material. Rather than threaten me to ban me from the Gnutella site, we should be working to find a solution to stop the proliferation on the internet of pornography in any form in any program. If you have an answer to that it would be most helpful. This is my first foray into a forum type site. I have the First Amendment right to express my opinions and views and don't take kindly to the threat of having them curtailed. As a moderator you wield your power like a kid that's found his father's gun. It's dangerous and goes against every principle I can think of for an open forum. In any case, the threat of banning me from this site is moot. I will no longer take part in this forum ever again. If I come to a roadblock with a problem with my computer htat I can't solve on my own, I will seek help elsewhere. itsbrkn |
