Im a newbie to this and need help bad! (transfer music to phone)

my question is this my friends told me you can download music in limewire and then download in to your cell phone but my problem is I have no ideal how and need to know if it can in fact be done or did I get mislead...if it can please can someone give me instructions on how to do this?
