Exclamation Monitor Alert: Possible scam using Gnu private messages

Dear Members & Monitors: Have just received private message from 'Anitta', new member with no posts, offering business proposition in Zimbabwe. According to her, the President there seized white farms (true), including her father's, and she is offering partnership business proposition to help rectify situation. Have not checked details, but on surface RESEMBLES the long-running Nigerian scams out of Lagos, of which I have received many. Even if legitimate, it has no business being connected with Gnutella. 'Anitta' used Gnutella resources to obtain means to contact me as a member. THIS IS A SERIOUS BREACH of Gnutella's purpose and should be promptly investigated. Any monitors or senior members have my unqualified permission to look at the private message just sent to me by 'Anitta' and look into details. As a member in good standing, I expect a reply about what is being done about this important matter.
Yours truly, caseybob

Hi caseybob as Mods we cannot see your private messages....I would suggest that you forward your pm to Lord of the Rings as he is the Administrator of the forums...

Exclamation Reply to wwhy suggestion about possible scam

Thanks for tip. Have just forwarded private message from 'Anitta' to Lord of the Rings as administrator. He will have to refer to my original concern in Open Discussion posted earlier today. In my opinion, using LWire for business propositions, even if legitimate, is a serious violation of the LW spirit. Would like to see a LOTRings post about what is done. Regards, caseybob

We don't allow anyone to spam the forums with that rubbish, hence them trying to do it via pm...

Post Reply to wwhy re no SPAM allowed

Hi ww: Thanks for prompt response. No SPAM allowed in Forums is all well and good, and I applaud. However, it does not solve the problem of people joining LW to use as contact source for private messages promoting legitimate or illegitimate business propositions. Can anything be done about that? Perhaps LOTRings will post news there is a solution...hope so. caseybob

Yea Peerless, I'll agree that 50 is a little high, but that number is totally irrelevant to the argument. The Number could be Anything. The whole Jist of the PM was more about situations as I mentioned and what has been said above.

Member's status was Member Awaiting email Confirmation, thus was not a full member. Member is now banned.

Sometimes members with such status need to PM me to help with registration (which might not be for obvious reasons too.) So, you need to look at the other end of the stick as well.

Sorry caseybob you were at the end of such a member's contact.

All other discussion 'between' mods on the PMing issue should be done privately if you know what I mean.
