Unhappy avi downloads no longer have video in wmp

Movies(avi) that were working just fine yesterday on windows media player are now just audio. The video is gone. The visualization effect comes on, but turning that off leaves the screen blank and the audio still going. When first coming on, wmp says codec detected, so I really don't know what has happened. Please help with any advice. Thanks.

Welcome Twentynine,

If your answer is "yes", I'm sure someone here will offer suggestions, but I must ask, do you have the same problem with more than one video that previously played well?
Sorry for asking the obvious, but if you continue to visit the forums you'll see how it's necessary.

Have you tried another player? VLC player is small, has all CODECs, and would be a good way to test.

Default thanks for reply. answer is "yes"

The problem has occured with all my downloaded avi files. 4 movies and 2 tv shows. They were working so perfectly and I was so stoked about them, but now it is just audio. I even downloaded a newer version of wmp (11) and still same problem (codec detected, but only audio plays). I also downloaded a new half hour avi tv show to see if maybe a new download would work proper, nope. Thanks for trying to help. In the mean time I'll try downloading the player you suggested.

Default Thanks Blackhorse

Thanks for the VLC info. I downloaded it and all my files play fine on it. I'll just us it instead of the troublesome wmp. Thanx
