Default Music organizer software...or re-tag????

I have been looking for some software that fixes my music files. For instance.....All my music is located in "my music" thats about 4,000 titles. When I open the folder up things aren't exactly that organized. There are alot of the songs that have numbers in front of them like 01 or 03 and so on....and then there will be like a dozen files that all have 01 or an other number in the beginning. And that causes things to be out of alphabetical order. I know that I can manually change them but that would take a long time and it also keeps happening when I download a music file.

Please Help......Thank you....Norm

I use iTunes which organises the music files into folders in this order: Artist -> Album.
I'm not saying iTunes is an ideal perfect program but that is one good thing about the program I like. Unfortunately in the newer versions it decides to put numbers in front of the file name which used to previously be optional.

iTunes cannot import or play wma, real files or mp3pro files (this format is becoming less common nowadays & was a patented format). It can play ogg vorbis files if you add a special 3rd party plug-in.

There's lots of free id3 taggers out there. I'm not sure about windows ones since I use a mac computer.

When you have a folder with 4,000 files in it, it will never be easy, but using naming scheme in Tag&Rename on similarly named songs to correct them would be the easy choice. This program is not free though, but it handles anything you throw at it.

Mp3 tag editor - Tag&Rename

e.g. songs that are properly tagged and have Artist and Title tags filled in correctly, use rename files "%1 - %2" which will make the file name "Artist - Title"

Remember to preview everything before saving.
