A Critique of Version 5

I paid for Limewire 4.18 Pro that apparently expired. The software would not connect to the server. I responded to the download notice and downloaded Version 5. I am not a happy user.

First of all, there was no notice that my download file for 4.1 Pro would be lost. I can't reload my Pro version now. This new software is hard to use, and lacks many features of the Pro version I had.

Fortunately I downloaded Ver 5 in the early morning. To my horror I found the section that said I was sharing all the documents in my document folders! Proprietary information, books I have written and recently copyrighted and other things I was horrified that were available to sharing. Fortunately I was able to remove them before anyone came looking at my computer. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE LIMEWIRE! Fix this now!

Also what is that opening thing about searching New York City? You don't share with any other users around the world? No wonder I received so few responses to my queries.

Secondly you have taken a perfectly acceptable program that was intuitive and easy to operate and now you have new program that is largely dysfunctional. I don't care about the users' names who are sharing. In fact there is apparently no way to turn off this feature. Secondly, where are all the tools to set up all the parameters that you had in the 4.18 program? They were in both the free and the PRO versions. If you can't provide at least the same functionality in the program then I won't buy the new PRO version.

Frankly, you have done for Limewire what Microsoft did with Vista - take a perfectly usable program and exchange it for a perfectly unusable one. I would appreciate an answer to my concerns from an experienced moderator please. Thanks.

This post talks about such things Upgrading to V 4.18 (click on link), with email warnings over last month & download page warnings.

You are not the only person not totally happy with LW 5. I have been informed 'some' of the old tools of LW 4 will be re-incorporated at a later stage. For search results at least, you can view it in Classic view which is almost identical to LW 4. You also could downgrade back to LW 4.18 if you desired by choosing the Old Installers link on right side of download window, or direct link is Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

Hi Hannibal_DK,

Lot's of people aren't happy with LW 5 for various reasons. Personally I hate the default adding of Desktop & My Documents if people choose to automatically add files to their library - if users aren't aren't paying attention through the setup wizard & aren't experienced with LW's options then they could actually end up sharing those without realising it.

The helpers at this forum don't work for LW. We're just volunteers. And the LW developers aren't really active on this forum.
