Eek can't burn/rip songs due Windows Media player malfunction

I was told that I could go into my Windows media player to download/rip the songs that I saved from Limewire/Iturnes but I can't get my Windows media player to work. I have XP home and I've even tried deleting & reinstalling and restoring the computer.

Is there another way I can rip/burn the songs that I saved onto my CD without having to use Microsoft Windows Media Player?

Thanks,

Jennifer

I would recommend using to different programs for ripping and burning.

EAC for ripping: Download Exact Audio Copy and the guides EAC Guides

Burrrn for burning: burrrn.net - The home of Burrrn and Mr QuestionMan Burrrn

They are both freeware of course

Default Windows Media Player

Thank you. I don't know what's been going on with my Windows Media Player but I'd gladly try something else.

Default No disk error

When I try the software that you mentioned or even Windows Media Player, I get the no disk error but there's a disk in there.

Any suggestions?

it could be that the discs you are using are not compatible with your burner...or perhaps the laser lens is dirty....

To expand on what Peerless said, yes you do need to clean your computer dvd/cd player now & again (just as a normal cd player, if not more-so because of computer cooler fans causing a vaccum sucking dusty air through the computer). Otherwise reading slows down, it can get to the point where it does not or has major problems to recognise some or all disks.

Some burners work best with particular brands (much more reliable). And some only work with certain brands. Same applies with set-top dvd players (but some, sometimes the cheapest set-top dvd players are not fussy at all.)

There is a web site around where you can check (if they tested your model) for the pluses & minuses of certain models ... which brand disks work best with them, which don't work at all with them, etc. Mindblock! I will find the url address if you wish.

Thank you both for your help. I bought Verbatim DVD+R disks. I believe my computer has DVD-R.

How should I clean my disk drives? Is there a disk that I should buy?
