UpGrading LimeWire I have a computer that is really, truly old. Its a Pent 100Mhz with only 42 Meg memory. I'm currently using v1.3 and I can get this little jewel to run "sort of" most of the time. Would I gain anything by upgradeing to v2.2 at this point or would I cause more trouble then its worth to try this.
Although this computer of mine is an oldie its probably one of the most stable machines I've ever seen, it never crashes, its just really, really slow! If I wait LONG enough the thing will actually do as I've instructed, it simply takes a long time.
Running v1.3 is like hit the button to go and then go eat dinner! Eventually the program will actually come up and run or it will sit there and kind of look at me like it forgot what I told it to do, but that's ok it old and needs to be reminded from time to time.
I'm wondering also if having less connections is better then more of them for old slow machines. I try to keep evreything its doing to an absolute minimum and it seems to like this. Any configuration ideas out there that will help me speed this thing up a little? Any ideas will help I'm sure! My modem can only hit 28.8bpi
BTW for people with computers as old as this one you can use a camera's flash memory as virtual memory and get good speed! I don't have much in the way of memory and I can't fit anymore then what I have into this machine. A camera flash card is way faster then a hard drive and seems to work well with this thing! Hey that card was expensive I might as well put the thing to work for me! Extra memory is a plus for this machine!
Thanks for the help! |
