Smile Ad-Free Limewire

You want free limewire w/o ads...w/o mirror sites?? Here's how: ( for Mac Users). AFTER you've run Limewire once, go the to the Library folder inside the Limewire folder. Select ads, Open in text edit by double clicking. The third line will say AD COUNT=15, change this to AD COUNT=0. Everything below this line must then be deleted.Save changes.Run Limewire ad-FREE !!!

Or, for windows, just get FreeWire:

or compile LimeWire yourself from the CVS, or get AquaLime (had to mention that hehe), or buy pro. Plenty of ways not to have ads.

But, one more way can't hurt pretty cool.

Cool

it is the same source as the limewire source. he just made a skin patch for swing and changed the look that way.
he would probably send it to you if you would post your email, although the source is probably not much different because he used a tool called skinLF to make the skin patch.

I did make some changes to skinLF, one would need those.
And I did change some of the LimeWire source to make it work with SkinLF. It wasn't a one line switch, about 7 .java files needed editing of some sort.

Also, there are also a couple changes that have nothing to do with the skin, such as stats in the titlebar and connection screen even for leaf connections. Plus, the retro version screwed around with stuff to make the layout look like it used to.

So yeah, the source code IS the limewire Sourcecode, plus about 10 files that are changed to some degree. I'll happily send it to anyone that asks.

There's an even easier way -- with the Mac OS X version at least. After installing, but before running, delete or rename the `ads.war' file in the LimeWire folder. Simple as that.

i believe limewire will eventually download a new ads.war as part of it's auto upgrade process.

I had already done this and was afraid the file would come back (as with deleting a preference folder and a new one is created when you restart the program). I started checking out all the LimeWire files. In the Lib folder, I trashed the "ads" folder and the "cookies.dat" file. Thought it might cause problems, but so far none to speak of. I'm assuming that the cookies file was the "spyware" (or a part of it)? Are there other files that are safe to delete that "spy"?

Thanks.

By the way, I'm running OS 9.1 on Mac G4

If you remove/rename <tt>ads.war</tt> <i>before</i> running Limeware, it never creates an <tt>ads/</tt> folder or a <tt>cookies.dat</tt> file.&nbsp; And <tt>ads.war</tt> hasn't come back yet, though I'd check again after upgrading.
<p>
BTW, there's never been any spyware in the Mac version.&nbsp; That was PC only.
