Default SharpWire

I started working on a (currently) closed-source GnucCOM (the 'gnucdna' that came with gnucleus) specificly targeted for Windows 7 called SharpWire.

The biggest issue I had is that the latest gnuccom is GPL and I'm usign MS-PL code (incompatible) so I had to use a loophole: webservices.

When you 'connect', the client(MS-PL) launches a seperate service application (that is GPL and sources will be available) and communicates to it using webservices tech.

This ofc makes it a bit more difficult to do things, but things go well so far.

All is coded in C#.

New current look:

What do you guys think so far?

Why not use the LGPL for your closed source project SharpWire? Morpheus did, and that is a closed source with GnucDNA 1.1.1.4. LGPL is the same as lesser general public license. Most closed source use that license LGPL or should use that! You can read more about LGPL license here: http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html

Well, reason is that I'm using MS-PL licensed code (for the Ribbon) and MS-PL requires that IF you ever release the code it MUST be under MS-PL.

I might be miss-interpreting this though, so that it might only apply to the ribbon - any ideas?

Once I got something decent done I will post the url to the gpl code here & at the blog.

Well you still can use LGPL license for the main application because of the GnucDNA you use...For the Ribbon you can use the MS-PL license like you say.You see, you must avoid breaking GPL/LGPL for your project. When the GnucDNA is used, it will recuier use off GPL OR LGPL license as the main license! But like the Morpheus with the GnucDNA 1.1.1.4 are licensed as LGPL and the BitTorrent support is MIT licensed...You could do somthing like that with your SharpWire project!I must admitt it sounds like a good project, and it's cool you wanna use the GnucDNA as core for SharpWire!Gnucleus and Morpheus start getting old and tired, so we need new one that are more up to date so to speak.I would love to test it, since i use Windows 7 now! :-)

Well I am keeping in mind of the GPL license. I can use it without releasing my code.

Reason is for the famous gpl webservice loophole (google it, reason they invented AGPL)

My project is split up in 2 parts : MS-PL licensed (closed source..) / GPL licensed code.

The GPL code is a windows service hosting the GnucCOM object, communication with this service is done purely using webservices (more precise : WCF) so no 'dynamic' linking is done!

I will release the service under GPL with full source access. People could use it as a base to make their own clients if they wanted using the same core

Btw : where did my main post go ? :s

Just go to http://sharpwire.blogspot.com if you want more info, and you can follow twitter if you want to be there once I release more GPLed code
