Rants Just say whatever must be said. (XoloX has been discontinued. We highly recommend you use an actively developed client instead.) |

Worth the sacrifice I see a single popup ad whenever I start up Xolox, but you know what, I've become such a fan of Xolox and supporter of our community that a single popup ad isn't going to bother me. There are other programs that do much worse, I've used programs that have so much adware and spyware and cookies that it can take months (next to a quick format of the harddrive) to get rid of it all. Xolox is the first p2p program that I've ever given my full trust in and I know they have my interested in mind. I mean jeez, its just a single pop up and after closing it once I never see it again unless I close and reload the program. If any of you don't like ads than I challenge you to make a p2p program COMPLETELY FREE without a SINGLE means of supporting yourself from the program without using ads, as reliable and useful as Xolox is. Welcome to the real world. Put up or shut up. Xolox rocks |

Thumbs Mostly Up I've been keen on Xolox for a long time. I don't mind the banner ad in the top-right, but I do protest loudly that I get popups now with 1.20 / 1.21 -- yes, a separate window. And they build up if you don't shut 'em down. Please listen, ppl at Xolox! Also the quality of the network has degraded significantly over the past 3-6 months. Probably this is because ppl are just not sharing stuff -- I understand it's a Gnutella protocol issue and not Xolox-specific, but maybe if you requested that ppl share more in a more visible way, then they would. Or maybe that's wishful thinking! Overall, I'll give Xolox 1.21 a 7/10. Which is down from the 9/10 I would have given the old version just under a year ago. |

Dishonesty I understand that linking to advertising keeps Xolox free. However, like others I detest the pop-under windows. They would be far less problematic as tabs within Xolox. This is an annoying trend as even Yahoo has stooped to pop-under windows. I think Xolox should offer a "pro" version for a $20 or $30 registration fee to eliminate the banner ads AND the pop-under windows completely. Worse yet, I believe that Xolox is responsible for or at least participating in the rash of Porn Bombs out there (see my post in the "WARNING (Porn Bombs) *.zip, *.rar, *.asf thread - http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=13920). I wouldn't be surprised if there are actually only 5 files out there and that the Xolox client itself is "translating" the filenames on your own machine to match just about any search you do. This is just out and out dishonest, particularly since it says right on the front page "We make the following promise to you: XoloX contains No spyware, no sneakware, no hijackware. " I would classify these bombs as a virus. Xolox is the best Gnutella client I've yet used. I would hate to forced to look elsewhere for a client if this trend continues. Xolox is crap Xolox is crap, banners are everywhere, the buttons are too big can't make them small to increase search/download windows and no search refinements. Actually, is it possible to use 1.12 again? I've got it somewhere on CDR, cracked but can't be bothered to dig it out again... 1.12 was the best! No more Xolox for me anyway... I hate ads, I don't care if I'm a freeloader, Gnucleus lets me be one... greedness in the Xolox team will fail them soon. Not happy with only one banner... |
