1.5.1.0: High CPU use and hang up

I've been using Shareaza 1.5.1.0 for the last two days. IMHO it's probably the best Gnutella peer available, and probably the most advanced :) .

But I am having a problem, after a few hours running, it starts to use more and more CPU resources, until it gets always above 90% CPU use and then it stops responding :( . I found no reason for that behavior, and after 10 or 20 minutes it's still the same. I can only close it (I use Win2K SP2). Does anyone else has this problem? It's very annoying. I guess that some process runs into a deadlock, and kills it all. I've also seen that sometimes there's a peak of CPU use and any upload running may breake. I am connecting to 5 ultrapeers. The computer only runs Shareaza, no other program was running except Kerio Personal Firewall (2.1.4).

Also I have seen partially closed sockets, in the firewall I can see the port 6346 open listening, and a few more 6346 sockets closed but not released.

I would like to make a suggestion also to improve Shareaza (and it's difficult to improve even more!): Ability to search and download a file when found (what LimeWire calls "Add to whishlist"). Also, something that allows automatical responses to chat requests (busy message, taking care not to respond automatically another automatic message!) :) .

Hi, igalan...

No, you are not alone...I have been having the same problem since the start of the v1.5.x.x series and I am using the same OS...

But, good news for you and others... I think
I am just completing the fourth hour of testing a change to the executable and all seems to be ok for now.

One thing that you can do before what I assume will be called v1.5.3.0 is released...
Mike has changed the default for Max Hits in the Advanced settings page... Change it to Max Hits 64

This is NOT the fix, but it will help...
There was supposed to be a further release but because of the problems that you and others (AND me !) have been having, that release is delayed, slightly...

As I say, this latest fix seems to be doing the job... The problem is apparently related to 'some' hosts not being exactly 'kosher'... sorry...;)

Keep your eyes open and look for the new release VERY soon... Hopefully today.

btw, I assume that you are sharing a relatively large number of files.

p.s. As you are probably aware... four hours is not long enough to be truly confident that this problem is beaten, but this is the fifth progressive development fix I have had to try re: this problem and for the first time I am feeling fairly confident...
Must be crazy, hmmm ? LOL

I write this long thing and the boss is here, anyway !!!

LOL

Wow! This is a quick response!

I am sharing over 170 files / 7 GB (most of the files are over 70 MB). I don't know if this is relatively large number of files shared or not, it depends :) . Many of this files are highly requested.

I look forward the new release of Shareaza, meanwhile I'll try with the Max Hits setting. I'll tell you if it works. Thanks! :)

number of files shared / CPU usage

I had this exact same problem... I reduced the number of files I share from 8 GB to whatever's in the download folder. The problem you reffer to went away and my download speeds rose quite a bit.

Don't bump an old topic; this is a completely different problem. In 1.5 there might have been a glitch that did this, but in 1.8 Shareaza hashes each file three times (because people on the Shareaza forums wanted EDonkey support -_-;) and thus uses a lot of CPU time hashing each individual file in your 8GB shares.
