Default Thank you

Thanks mate,I appreciate the trouble you've taken.

I set up a static IP and port forward over a year ago,and rechecked the settings only yesterday.

I now think the problem may have been a compatibility issue between my router and Comodo Firewall.--I uninstalled Comodo, and installed Zone Alarm, according to the instructions. Shareaza is now working perfectly.----I've connected, disconnected, turned of and on and rebooted the PC and the router, twice now..--I could get the connection to work with Comodo if I rebooted the router (?)

I will of course keep your reply for future reference.

Thanks again

Do you pass the connection test now with ZoneAlarm?
For the correct setup of ZA, check this:
SourceForge.net: FAQ.FirewallsRouters.ZoneAlarm - shareaza

PS.: I still think there has not been an incompatibility between Comodo and your router. This is highly improbable. The problem was probably only at one side, and it probably has been an issue on your Computer (if the router used to work).

Seems you were right.

I configured Zone Alarm and everything was just dandy. The it went again. I've fiddled with it;rebooted Shareaza, rebooted computer, cleaned cache, even did a disc check. It's worked intermitently. currently not working, after being fine earlier today.--Yes it has been passing the connection test, now it isn't.

Any ideas, explained simply will be gratefullyy accepted,. EG how do I check my router's security log?

Have you setup UPnP in your O/S?

Yes.

I should mention again that I've been using Shareaza trouble free for over 2 years until few weeks ago.

OldDeath said to check the router's security logs. Can you tell me how to do that?.

Default Router Logs

BOF

I presume you are the "Administrator" for your router, if that is true then all you have to do is access your equipment's admin functions, as usual, find the log page and within that find the "Security" log page.

Now, I've just basically described generically, rather specifically, where your security log should be, i.e. that's how I found my modem-router's security log page.

You know, I am inclined to agree with OldDeath's assessment of your problem, there is something switching off UPnP in your router and that is likely to be a security event. Now, assuming that your router is still working properly, the only application that can interact with it is it's own "control software".

Another thing, if your router connection is under attack, or believe it is, then your NAT firewall should have kicked in and blocked the attack, UPnP should not have auto-switched off (my modem-router's firewall activated when my connection came under a SYN attack).

Therefore, I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer's help desk to see if they can explain what event could possibly cause this "UPnP auto-switch off" problem.

Good Luck

UK Bob

The funny thing is that I've already heard from people having set up port forwarding on their router - and at the same time the router detected a security risk on the forwarded port (too much incoming UDP packets) and blocked traffic on this port automatically - even though it has been manually forwarded.
That was the thought behind my advice to check the security logs.
