If your connected through a router/modem, they usually have a nat firewall in them. If so you'll have to configure it to allow limewire access to the internet. See this thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=51357

Whats the other end of the ethernet cable plug into? Does it go into a box or plug into the wall?

Any details you can give about your setup will help:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

I also have noticed that I can connect to the edonkey sever with another
P2P program that connects to many servers and with that one it also can't connect to the gnutella server

Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might be blocking the Gnutella Network. Gnutella isn't a server. Every user that connects to the network becomes a server

Who is your ISP ?

What kind of P2P does work for you ?

Gnutella doesn't have a central server, you're connecting to other computers

If you've got UPnP enabled within the router, do you also have it checked within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config?
From what some of the forum gurus say, I gather that some Linksys models are a bit unreliable in UPnP mode. You could try port forwarding, but to give you detailed instructions, we're going to need the model number. Have a look all over the router, it should be written somewhere. If there's a manual floating around somewhere, it should be written there as well.

wrt54g v5 that is the model number and I am still trying to get in touch with my ISP. The P2P program that does work is "shareaza." It seems like a hybrid that connects to 4 different networks like edonkey and Gnutella 1&2. But on that one as well It can't connect to Gnutella but it can to edonkey. I hope that helps because there isn't much on edonkey
