Did you try to eliminate system-wide problems? It's a good idea before and after major system updates, to run a safe boot (reboot and hold down the shift key during system startup), then Disk Utility to repair permissions.

Here's more info on those steps

Or do yourself (and your computer's) a favor and buy a third party Disk Utility: I just bought one, ran a check and found MAJOR problems. Oopsie. Weird thing is that the iMac was operating (almost) perfectly. No sign of any major problems. Yet, something about B-Trees and stuff came up. Plus, it corrected a weird minor problem I have with desktop icons (an error which causes some of the desktop icons to display a wrong icon, be it a deformed version of the original or a totally different icon. The error still comes up at times. I think it's 'cause of BitTorrent... .Thankfully, the Disk Utility -it's a Norton- repairs it)

Careful--the Norton disk utilities were cursed for quite a while on the Apple Forums and other mac groups. People were claiming it "fixed" problems that weren't and caused many problems.

I really liked Norton for OS 9, but OS X is different.

search for "norton" on the http://www.macattorney.com/tutorial.html page
