Default “No Compromise” Vista-McAfee-Limewire Solution

I had the same blah-blah-blah issues of not being able to run Limewire and McAfee together as many of you have. I am currently running Limewire Pro 4.13.2 and a paid 3 year full subscription of McAfee together and have never uninstalled or reinstalled any of JRE 6u1, Limewire, or McAfee. My McAfee and Limewire are both fully functional without the slightest compromise. I couldn’t be happier with my current configuration.

I obviously cannot guarantee you will all have the same success I did, but after reading of all the frustrations on these forums, if it helps solve the problem for any of you, it will be well worth the time sharing it with you. These are the steps I followed that worked for me.

Limewire Configuration

Start Limewire,
then to “Tools” menu bar,
then to “Options”,
then to “Advanced” (on the left hand side),
then under Advanced to “Firewall Configuration”
on the right hand side under “Router Configuration” you will see 3 button options
Choose the middle one called “Manual Port Forward”, don’t change the number, but record it for later
Then “Apply” and “OK”
Then exit Limewire

McAfee Security Center Configuration

Start “McAfee Security Center”
then from the home page, click on “Internet and Network”
then on the right hand side within the services protected box, click the arrow for “Configure”
then select the “Firewall” portion, select the “On” button, then to “Advanced”
then on the left hand side, select “System Services”
then select the “Add” near the bottom of the right hand menu
fill the out the form as follows
Program name: lime
Program category: (leave blank)
The next 4 port descriptions all get the number your recorded from the Limewire Manual Port Forward
Description: (leave blank)
“OK” the menu
Close McAfee Security Center

Restart, and keep your fingers crossed as you launch Limewire and try downloading. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Any feedback on success or failure would be appreciated.
