Angry Mac problems playing anything!

I have downloaded a music video mpeg and an mp3 but both of them, when downloaded show up as limewire files and not as mp3's or mpegs.
How do u convert them or am I doing something wrong??

I was having the same problem with music files. I finally went and downloaded WinampMac from my http://www.tucows.com mirror site. Using File|Open played the music files just fine even though the icon was still wrong. For some reason I couldn't get anything else to play these files.

What system are you on? If you can run iTunes then get iTunes Associator at http://www.versiontracker.com and you'll have no trouble with mp3s. As for the changing the video mpegs, you'll have to find a utility that allows you to change the type and creators codes to the program you want to use. Check the same site again.

Lightbulb Try This

If your still having problems, get quicktime, then, rename any download files with a ".mp3" at the end. It will turn it into a quicktime document and you should then be able to add the song to the playlist of your choice.

I was having the same exasperating problem with audio files. Justin, thanks for the tip, it worked like a charm!

Default Fixing Mac MP3s

On the Mac, use a utility such as Se****Type to set the creator code (TVOD, that's a letter oh, not a zero) and file type 'Mp3 ' (there's a space after the 3). On WINDOWS, you do a similar thing when you set the extension to .mp3--you tell the OS how to view the file and what application created it.

Downloaded the new 1.7 version and still getting limewire doc icon on 805 of
downloads instead of MP3. Can't get Toast to record them as MP3's.

Any suggestion?

Building on Dr Doug's reply ... this is a File Type and File Creator problem. I suggest File Buddy ... see the pargraph below:

If you are having trouble getting the File Type and File Creator and you want then download a utility like File Buddy (see shareware.com) which will give you control of type and creator. An example might be if you want your mp3's to be iTunes files and you're getting QuickTime files you can use File Buddy to change the File Creator to iTunes.
