Default Needlessly complicated

I have been signed up to this forum for years but I cant post because I have never posted? Is that weird or what? This is the only place that will allow me to post,(that I can find) it is needlessly complicated to a 60y/o and I wonder how many people have tried to post and given up? Its as if this site was set up by a hacker for hackers to hack into? I read the sticky on how to post a thread but it didn't make sense because the directions are wrong?

Forums as a whole can be intimidating when it is your first time there. And the larger they are the more complicated it seems.

This forum is broken up into sections. Some of the parent sections are non-postable sections, but simply link to other child forum sections which can be posted into. (If there were no multiple sections of the forum, then it would be one single mess of all kinds of topics. Categorizing the forum helps to find things.)

So the idea is to first find the area of the forum that suits your topic to post about or to find information about. Then visit the child forum sections for specific areas of your topic. I hope that makes sense.

If you see a Post Reply or New Thread button near the top-left of the window then you know you can create your own thread or post. (Creating a new thread is posting a new topic of discussion.) But you need to be logged into the forum before you can post.

The FAQ at top left of screen is where you can find some extra information about the meanings of certain things on the forum.

Yes I can see what you mean but I have been posting on Bulletin sites for years and Ive hardly ever had any problems with them its just the ones that haven't been configured to be user friendly that have the problems.I read the sticky here on how to post a thread and I couldn't follow it because it didnt make sense? If I remember correctly it said to go to the top of the page on the left where it says site feedback there is something under there to click? But there wasnt anything to click and I couldn't go any further than that? Its like having a 300 page preface to a book before you can read it. This is just a Bulletin forum site why cant it be just that? All the others are easy to use, whats wrong here?

Hi Zippy

I am in your age group, having formally retired some two years ago, and I have been posting to this forum since May 2004.

I know it can seem daunting but once you get into it you will find that it is quite easy to make a posting.

OK, I can help you to get started, let me know what topic you want to discuss and I will start it off for you.

I'm quite capable of posting if I am allowed to do it? If I click on quick links then Mark Forums Read.to find a subject to post on I'm taken to a page that says I have an invalid security token? It says to contact the administrator to get things fixed?(or words to that effect) So Ive done that and here I am again with the same problem?

I am not sure why you would be receiving the security token issue. There is a possibility of this happening if you used the browse backward in history of your browser to a post you were in process of posting or editing, or a similar scenario. Other than this, it might be related to your browser's cookie settings for this site.

If you wish to find a topic you are subscribed to, you can click on UserCP top-left of screen to find your User Control Panel. In this window find the Subscribed Threads heading in the column on the left side and click on List Subscriptions. This will list threads you have subscriptions to. By default members are subscribed to threads they created or posted to. Threads can also be manually subscribed to via Thread Tools.

Hi Zippy

I am not sure why your are clicking "Quick Links", why do you not just click on either "Post Reply" or the "Post Quick Reply" button to join an existing discussion.

That is the easiest way to reply to someone's post or in an open sub-forums click the "New Thread" button to start a new topic.

Hope this helps.

How am I supposed to subscribe to a post/thread if I cant even start one? Ive had next to no trouble at all on any other Bulletin forum except this one? It just makes me wonder how many others have tried and given up in disgust? Who is the webmaster for this site? Thats the person I should be talking to!

How many times do I have to tell you? I cant access anything! Its got to do with a security token. These Bulletin forums are all exactly the same they just have to be configured correctly and this version obviously isn't.I'm getting completely pissed off with this.Who is the webmaster, who configures this site? That is the person I need to fix this.Im starting to think that there is no webmaster for this site, its an ad hoc setup like a dogs breakfast and no-one knows whats going on or this would have been fixed by now.
