Gnutella Clones Are there any advantages to the gnutella clones, or are they just a different look to the same program? Will any of them make my searches faster or more accurate? |
There are many advancements that clones have that the .56 client does not have. In my opinion, .56 is antiquated and underfeatured. Gnotella 0.6.6 has spam filtering, web interfacing, ect, and also features skinning for improved aesthetics. http://gnotella.nerdherd.net/ |

Yes, the generic client is the BASIC client. It gives the minimal functionality. It is quite good at doing so (based on my short experience). In my opinion, the generic client is missing a very important functionality: it gives no way of limiting number of uploads, so my bandwidth was getting clogged! (By the way, when after reading the FAQ, I went to the IRC chat room and asked about this, I was ignored... What's the purpose of the IRC chatroom then?) Inability to limit uploads is, in fact, the reason I even considered trying a clone. I am now with Gnotella, and I am happy (except for a weird error message that comes up every once in a while). I will happily try another clone, if a good one comes along. Another drawback of the generic client is inability to resize the window. I feel the window is too small. I don't care too much about the skins... I just care to able to tell a button from the background... :-) ------------------ user onty@acm.org: file ~/.signature not found!
