As for the whole college issue.. Since im a college student myself typing this in my dorm room right now i agree that if i was to donate money i would want to go to education because thats what i donated the money for.

But this is a ligitimate issue and which does affect all p2p programs especially gnutella users who were regular loyal and good gnutella users before all of a suddent are cut off. That is not good for a decentralized network like gnutella.. So i dont think that the should have been deleted, maybe clsoed or even split out the insulting into a seperate thread and close that, but this isnt the only P2P forum on the internet and this isnt the only gnutella forum on the internet either.

Anyways what im shocked is the lack of options that students have.. For alot of things. I and i think many other students would be happy just to have a different choice for internet, I think students would be able pay extra for unblocked service to add on to the current costs which is included in rent. Or why dont universities coorporate with or take bids from cable/phone companies to offer students dsl or cable internet connection for the smester?

It wouldnt be that hard to do and really it benifits everyone.. The univerisity could use the extra fees for more bandwidth to support it or even get commission from the phone/cable companies for people who use that on campus which wouldnt use any lan bandwidth. Students would get what they want and they get a alternative when now they really dont have any.

i have been to many college campus's and have never used a system that was bogged down enough to disrupt learning. sure there are some that were slower than others, but not due 100% to filesharing. In fact I know of one college in particular that set up a section of its network just to let student share files over its LAN.

Strange conclusions from your words? Your above statement speaks for itself. That idea was somehow funny to you... period. Care to dispute your own words?
bpmax, I do think it is funny (but perhaps the word silly would have been a better choise) that if a German posts on a P2P forum, a American then reconciders his donations to AMERICAN education.

Sure, like i say what i am most shocked about is the lack of options that students really have.. Hopefully it will be successful and take off elsewheres like the university of florida. If students want to use file sharing programs, and use up more bandwidth and etc. then they can pay to do so. You could also do what dsl providers do and put download/upload caps and have different price plans. The more flexible it is the better it would be that way the more bandwidth a person wants the more they can pay for it.

Iamnacho bandwidth over lan isnt used nearly as much as internet bandwidth.. Plus i think that those people would rather be able to use file sharing programs on the internet and not the lan too..

In terms of how much is used as a percentage of the total available. Also, a university generally pays nothing for LAN bandwidth used but the Internet connection is the expensive part.
