I don´t think so. Others will also post magnet links. And if we would allow only some long timers to post links there would be a discussion why are they allowed to do it and not all members bla, bla...

For me, the only problem is about CC willing to do it.
CC is the minor problem if we find a practible way.

And it's not like we are going to create a forum for that as we ruled that out last time.
If we allow magnet links than only in a special forum, where we can overview them and only some "special" people could post there. IMO this is the only practible way, but who is allowed to post magnets? Of course only trusted people, but don´t count with the mods I am sure the most won´t post magnets, so we have to upgrade some senior mebers to magnet link posters. Will you make a list?

All other magnets besides this forum should be deleted.

I remember that I suggested this but nobody really agreed to it.

Hmm, thing is that newbies don't know how to post magnets that works. They would have to lurk here a while before knowing how. Probably that by the time they know how to do it, they would be responsible. Just like it's seems to be on shareaza forums. Maybe we should ask Kath if they have problems over there with abuse of copyrighted magnets...

Creating a forum only for magnets and rejecting magnets in others seems a difficult technical task for CC. I for one wouldn't know to proceed without kacking Vbulletin.

Ciao

New to our forum don´t mean that they have no experience. When you or me are joining a new forum they don´t know how much you or me know or don´t know...

Its absolut no problem. We do it the old way trash by view.

We just add a rules which forbids to post magnet links and that only "special" people are allowed to do it. This way we don´t need to check the links we just delete it.

The difference is that we aren´t responsible for shareaza forums, when the admi is living with the risk its his personal choice. btw do you know where their server is placed? This could be a very important point...

I can see the problem of mods verifying that magnets are legitimate.

So, what about allowing magnets that the poster declares to be legitimate? Undeclared magnets could be edited just as http ones are now, with a note to declare them.

Will CC allow magnets to be formatted properly now?

(and I'll take out the ones I posted earlier)

No way. Some users will always bend the rules, especially file sharers no law no rules... they could create fake accounts declare that the link is legitimate or they can declare the earth is a disk and we can´t do anything.

Now, wait, I'm confused. What is the difference between a magnet and http link again?

You implied that you have to download a magnet link but not an http one. Well I don't know about you, but my TCP/IP connection requires me to download an HTTP resource before I know what it is.

That being said, I've built a Gnutella Magnet URI Redirect Service for such scenarios. It only works for Gnutella at the moment.

Know the similarity between displaying in a browser and downloading to a file. Either way you are downloading. If we had better magnet browsers, we could use them akin to http browsers. In fact, magnet should be supported next to http and https.

Reading seems to be a big sience...

I said that I can check a http link within a few seconds. If you look in our rules we only allow links to "websites" which refer to the topic or to p2p, all others aren´t allowed and will be deleted.
