Post Why not antivirus

Lime Wire has tonnes of great downloads, but i can't tell whether the program has a virus or not. I know you would say look at the suffixes for exe, zip etc, but why do we have to go through the hassle? We should just be able to click on a download and download it spyware and virus free. Lime wire should scan all the software on the network, then it would relize that most of the things in there are viruses. Get a global antivirus program Lime Wire!!!

Oh and can anyone out there tell me whether ALL Limewire Downloads are 100% free no questions asked please? Thanks

I'm gonna approach this a tad bit differently than I usually do...

I just gotta ask...

Just how is it that you view the LW network (in actuality the Gnutella Network)?..seriously, just how is it that you imagine the network works? (in 1 maybe (just maybe) 2 paragraphs)

How much hassle is it really to scan a file with your AV after download? It takes what... 20 seconds? There are obvious things to be wary of (.zip, .exe for eg) & the more notorious file sizes, which everyone gets to know in time & with a little research
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

There is no fee per download with LW. It's pure sharing

Yes i know it takes 20secs to scan a folder but which file do i choose to download? Like for example, i typed in tune up utilities 2006,and it comes up with so and so results right, and i start by clicking and downloading on one of them, when i finished downloading and begin set up, Norton Pops up and tells me that the file i have downloaded is a virus, so i clicked on the other ones and they come up with the same thing. Im not sure what to do now...

and also im new to this downloading thing so cop me a bit of slack man, take it easy

The question of having antivirus integrated to sharing software comes up once
in awhile, but the fact that any good antivirus software already does
everything we need tends to make such questions lead nowhere.

I suppose the next logical step is to have P2P apps nag you into downloading
and installing one, so at least some people will stop sharing the junk.

In the meantime, keep pestering the P2P developers on improving their antispam
features while I continue collecting hashes on that junk and spreading around
the [BearShare fullsize hostiles list] and the gnutella templist. ;]

Well Quoc

I just read your suggestion, which was pretty forceful I might add, but when pushed, by our good buddy Peerless, your views of the network and how it works, you cry off, "I'm only a newby, cut me some slack".

May I make a little suggestion that will help you in the future and not annoy long-time forum users, like Peerless and myself, is that you do a little research before making another banal suggestion that countless other "know nothing" newbies have made in the past.
