Forum Avatars, Signature Avatars...INVALID FILE! arrrgh!

Why can I not ever seem to get a freakin' image file to stick for my avatar, or my sig picture, or my forum post avatar???

Im following the directions for size and kb's.

Im using easythumbnail to shrink these images to the proper size, and when I try to upload them, I get that "invalid file" error page.

Ive uploaded the correct size image to photobucket and have entered all 4 of the embed url's, and I cant get any of them to stick....again, invalid file.

I know that, at least once, I got it to work because I just now removed a signature avatar to replace it with a newer one, but ..... invalid file.

These are jpg images, all made to the correct thumbnail size per instructions on the forum pages. ie 100 x 500 or ? kb's, whichever is smaller...

INVALID FILE.

Its driving me nuts, and although thats not a very long drive, its still a pisser.

Is there a secret? Do I have to donate money or something? Do I have to have the Pro version of Limewire?

No, you don't have to donate (there's no donate facility for the forum) & you don't have to any client's Pro version.
This forum has nothing to do with LW apart from offering advice to LW users.

Don't really know why you're having problems, but try resizing the image & then saving it to your HDD. After that, upload it within User CP here.

That's what I've done... resized my image & saved it to HDD rather than hosting it. Then uploaded it.

I had probs for a short time on another forum, with an avatar which was hosted on Photobucket but I think in that case I was originally using the wrong link. Image > click on Share (above your image) > Get Link Code > click on the first option 'IMG for bulletin boards & forums'. Copy that link.

For custom images, maximum sizes are below:

Avatar = 100 x 100 pixels, 50 KB file size

Profile Picture = 100 x 100 pixels, 25 KB

Signature Image = 500 wide x 100 pixels high, 50 KB

Album photos = 600 x 600 pixels, 100 KB


(You will find some of the avatars supplied on the forum are larger than the allowable custom avatar sizes both in image dimensions & file size.)

As birdy mentioned, it can be a bit tricky sometimes discovering how to post url links for signatures or avatars.

Edit: If you are using url's to link images, you still need to ensure the images fall within the maximum allowable file dimensions.

Hello Krasouc, welcome to the forums.

My apologies, for the time-being there's a problem with uploading custom avatar images. I'll let you know when it's repaired.
Since I posted the sizes here the maximum file-size was increased slightly to 58 KB. I've just increased the maximum Avatar dimension size to 110 pixels. If you've been a member and multiple poster for a reasonable period of time, the image options are a little larger.

This issue is fixed now. You should now be able to upload the image.
