![]() I've tried running the following versions of xolox in the last two days: 132 141 141_516 They all produce the same results. Xolox starts up. It starts to connect to hosts, in some cases it gets to 3 of 6 hosts connected, the last time it got to 5 of 6 hosts connected. Then the computer is completely frozen/locked up. The only way to get out of this is to do a hardware reset of the system. I am running Windows 2000, 5.00.2195, Service Pack 3. I believe the CPU I am using is a P3 running at 1ghz and there is 256mb of memory on this computer. I opened up the Windows Task Manager to watch the resource usage before the system froze. The last entries indicated the following: CPU usage at 21% MEM Usage at 183988K <which is a low amount per the display> Xolox had also started the following: "Started calculating finger prints for shared files". Basically Xolox is useless on my computer and renders my computer inoperable if I try to start it. I am able to use WINMX without a problem. I have a satellite connection to the internet and I have two computers on a small network at home (two computers connected via a switch). If there is any other information you need let me know. Basically I cannot and will not try to use Xolox again until I receive some type of direction on things to try to "fix" this problem, or requests for additional data on this problem. Thank you. |

![]() Calculating hashes for you files can take quite a bit of resources, and I have noticed that when Xolox does this, the change in available resources is not always reported. This is a process that Xolox tries to do in the background. Your computer may be having problems with that particular task as well. |

![]() I would suggest trying to give Xolox as many resources as possable, and just wait until Xolox has worked through all of your files. Depending on the amount of volume you are sharing, that can take a long time. But, does not need to be done again unless the file's contents change. |

![]() I'd be happy to give that a try, but I don't know how to go about doing this. Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of off-hand is to have xolox and my internet connection as the only things running. Is that what you are suggesting. If that fails - the computer hangs and requires a hardware reset - are there any diagnostics of information I could gather that would help with this problem. It strikes me that a program that eats up all the resources on a PC and then hangs up the PC as being pretty user hostile. Does any flow control, or throttling back on resource consumption take place in xolox? I've worked with computers for 25-26 years so I'm not uncomfortable with programs not working properly, but I think if xolox works this way the progam will lose potential users. I've looked at cnet and user opinion of xolox and it seems pretty low, which is too bad. It seems that a lot of the negative entries are related to computers being hung up. Thanks! |
