Xolox Quits I am trying to reproduce this problem to give more information, but after going to the release version of 1.5, I've noticed that Xolox quits and leaves no trace. I can't tell you how long it runs before this happens, because I leave Xolox running on my computer overnight. WHen I leave, it is running. When I return in the morning. Xolox is not running. Does Xolox leave messages to the system event log? XP Pro (no service packs), 512 mB of memory, not an ultrapeer. |

taco - Yep, same problem here. Been trying to sort it out since the upgrade. I ran the uninstall of v1.41 prior to installing v1.5 as well. So far, I can't find any trace of a log either. The Event Log shows nothing to do with Xolox... Furthermore, it has happened quite a few times both while the PC was sitting and running only Xolox and while I was doing somehting else, like e-mail. I wonder if there is a setting in one of the config for an auto time-out function that you can not configure within the Preferences Interface. ~Burnt Win XP Pro - sp1 P4 2.0Ghz 640 Mb RAM |

Same problem here too. I upgraded to 1.5 because after a few days of use 1.4 would freeze and I'd have to reinstall. 1.5 vanishes about 30 seconds after it's run on my setup. Nothing exotic here either: unmodified install of XP Pro w/all SPs and updates, Dell Inspiron 2650 w/256 ram and a 1.8 p4. I was just trying to get into my preferences so I could also post how I have it configured, but now I can't even do anything in the program, it just locks up (kind of like 1.4 was doing, but faster). |

I ended up backing out of 1.5 and back to 1.41. All seems well now and the un-installs/re-installs did nothing to my downloads or resume/partials folder. To switch between versions, all you need to do is to back up the files under Program Files/Xolox (excluding Downloads) and then just swap them in and out. Or at least that worked cool for me! |

Hmm... well it's not simply "vanishing" anymore, but it is locking up, sort of like 1.4 was. It locks up right when it tries to change the banner the first time. Unfortunately, I can't downgrade back to 1.4 since I upgraded hoping to fix bugs (XoloX crashing all the time). Edit: scratch that, it locks up whenever ANYTHING on screen (in the program) changes, including trying to use the menu to get to the Preferences. Edit: Hmm, this is interesting. If I jump straight to Transfers right when XoloX opens it will actually go for about 3 minutes downloading files successfully. It will lock up after a few banners load though, or if you try to do anything (including minimize or close the window). You can tell I've got a lot to do at work, eh? XoloX closing silently issue some people experience is being worked on. It's hard to narrow down ( or isolate) the cause since no error message is left. whenever there is a new build that addresses that issue, you can be sure it will be told on here and the client start page. thanks |

Well, 1.56 is out and the problem is STILL there. In fact, it's even worse than before thanks to the new little popup when you open the program. If I don't catch it just right it will lock up and I have to try to open it again. The problem also now happens with the popup Yes/No dialog when you try to cancel a transfer, so my transfer list is now very loooooooooooooong... I'm going to go try deleting the partials to clear it. Still doesn't solve the errors though, wtf is goin' on? It worked perfectly fine up until 1.41... |

Version 1.56 Strange, the only problem I have is the very long transfer list with a lot of files that have a partial download status (80% and up, so please keep sharing) but XoloX never quits unless I say so . I'm a very satisfied user. And I run on a Asus P2B with celeron (PII) 300mhz and 196sdram, Win98 . The number of connections to pears is always 5 and up. I just don't ultra pear because of the above configuration (The system is getting a bit sloooooooooooooooooooow !. ) |

As the original poster, I should follow up with that the Xolox team has cleared up my issues with Xolox quiting. WHen I posted the original message, it would not run more than a few minutes without crashing. Subsequent releases have cleared up most of the problems and now I got only occasional crashes (couple times a week at most). When the option is presented, I always send the report back to Xolox (but never to Microsoft -- it won't help them with world domination, will it?) The most pressing problem now seems to be the lack of downloads. It doesn't seem useful for the search engine to find your files if it cannot follow up with a download. I gather from other sources that this is probably not the fault of Xolox, but other Gnutella clients not playing well with others. It this point, I get about a 5% success rate on downloads. Most just never complete. While I like Xolox, it isn't particularly useful to me with this low success rate. |
