what you don't know CAN hurt you there's something very very wrong with xolox. i have it running right now and my firewall shows that it's uploading at 20 KBps. that's kilobytes, not kilobits. there's be nothing wrong with that if i were actually uploading something. the problem is that i'm not. i'm downloading at a measley 5 KBps and that's it. i have the upload and download window unhidden and i'm watching it like a hawk, but there's nothing there. i've been using gnutella for a long time now so i know that the connections take up a little bandwidth, but 20 KBps is crazy. either i'm connected to about 50 peers right now (which i really doubt since i get barely any search results) or someone's accessing my computer and i can't see it. i don't know about any of you, but i'm very paranoid when it comes to my computer and i don't like this ONE BIT!!! |
i think it's just network trafic, if they ever implement the ultrapeer protocol, it should lower the amount of bandwidth used to run XoloX, but i could be wrong |
Superpeers lower the search traffic for the modem users! Morgwen |
get this ever try furthnet? its for trading legal .shn and .mp3 sourced shows. one show is 900 megs or so, and u can dl from multiple hosts. the last show i got was from 9hosts at once, 3000 KB/s down and around 100 up, even tho i wasn't uling anything. it's just the way these networks run. -----Krugger |
Broadband isN'T symetrical. If you start uploading your download will go down slowly depending on how much you upload. |

What connection is 3000 kb/s???? Even my 100 mbit LAN connection has about 600 kb/s, so how can it be that much? |

hi there, actually i had similar problems with xolox a while ago. my upload seemed to be quite substantial and my downloads neglectable !!! also, xolox seemed to take up many resources and eventually crashed my machine when left running too long. BE AWARE OF THIS APPLICATION |

Xolox is still in beta they are searching for the last bugs, but the version is very stable and can be used by every user... About your ressources, what do mean exatly? CPU, RAM or bandwidth? I ask because mine are low... - are you running other applications while Xolox is running? Morgwen |
first of all, i was running ONLY Xolox on my windows XP PRO (P4, 1Ghz, 256 MB DDR) and it STILL managed to freeze up my system after keeping it running for about 10 minutes. exactly the same thing happend with windows 98 ! what it did, was sending huge uploads while my downloads where a miserable 5 kbps maximum! this is NOT normal behaviour and is NOT due to their server or whatsoever. how else do you explain other filesharing programs (morpheus, kazaa, edonkey) who basically use the same method, but will never boost your upload without your knowledge or approval? oh, and please spare me the spyware-excuse. that's what AD-aware is for. |

they donīt use the same method! Did you get an error messages or something else? I tested Xolox on a w2k system, it runs hours without any problems... I will have a look with w98se! Perhaps you discovered a bug - remember Xolox is still a BETA! Morgwen |
funny I ran it for a few weeks on end on xp pro.. The older beta's did eventually crash, but the newer ones seem ok. Also, bandwidth does not work the way many of you think.. I'm on cable. I can max out my upstream and downstream is COMPLETELY unaffected. It is the way your isp has it setup and the quality of your equipment. As far as the person who said the speeds on their lan, a 100mbps lan is 10MB/sec, not 680KB/sec |
