no downloads

I just intalled Xolox for the first time (V 1.19). Everythings ran smoothly and i get the network ok message. I can select files to download, but the download never happens. All I get is "searching, busy 0, buffer 0".
Other clients (like Morpheus 1.9 or MyNapster, WinMX or Audiogalaxy (as long they existed) did connect and download.
Can somebody help me with that? (I am connecting on cable modem through a Windows 2000 advanced server using ICS - maybe this information helps finding the solution.

I am having the same problem and I am using a normal dial-up connection.

Unregistered June 22nd, 2002 01:38 PM

Same problem here and I am on a T-1 using Windows 2000 Professional. Downloading from Kazaalite as we speak...

This is NO problem... just wait a little... the host might be busy!

This is billm@ilg.net (from a couple of posts ago). That is not the problem. I installed the software about eight hours ago and have tried to download a number of things with numbers of hosts exceeding 50 and not a single byte has been transmitted. That is not due to busy hosts. I have been a Morphues user for some time now (and yes, since it has been on the Gnutella network) and know what it is like when hosts are busy. This is not due to busy hosts.

One thing I did notice from some other posts that may or may not be related is that I changed both my download directory and my shared files directory. Could that have anything to do with it? Some other people seem to have had problems when they change from the default directories...

Why do you think this is not the reason?

What does your download status say and how long do you wait?

btw its no good idea to post your mail address, someone can think its funny to send you a virus or something else... I can edit it out if you want to!

I left the client running since may original post about nine hours ago. Not a single bit has been transferred. And among others I tried to download a couple of very popular songs with high scores. On Morpheus the same song downloaded in no time. Something is most definitly not working here.

Morgwen June 22nd, 2002 06:20 PM

Ok,

what did your download status say?

I am having the same problem. The download status either says connecting, qued or searching. No data has been transfered.

Unregistered June 22nd, 2002 10:39 PM

I am having the same problem. The thing just doesn't do anything. I have used Xolox before on my computer with much success. I recently took it off my computer, but then decided that I wanted the newer version (1.9 I think). And since I have done that, it won't download anything. It just keeps searching and connecting. Nothing else. In the past, I would have some items that would not download or that would take a while to download, but not like this. And most of the time I would get my download within a reasonable amount of time. I hope someone can help us.

KayaMan June 23rd, 2002 12:39 AM

Possible reasons OTHER then that the person you are trying to get the file from is busy or gone offline:

- The ICS user - you may need to force your local IP and port in tools > preferences > network tab > advanced button

- Others , do you use a firewall? Most often the problem is you don't have a properly configured firewall (not allowing xolox access or security level set too high) . Especially wXP users - do not use that POS XP firewall.

- Join chat? Some peers or ops may be able to help with your individual problem.

can't download

i also can't seem to get anything going....my download status remains on searching, speed 0.0 and, of course, percentage 0.0%. it's been a half hour. is this normal?

AFAIK you can´t search than either!

At least with other gnutella clients I have made this experience.

Short explanation:

connecting:

Your client tries to connect, this is normal and should change quick...

qued:

The host is busy and your client wait until a download is possible.

Searching:

Your client is SEARCHING, perhaps your sources went offline and now you need more sources...

Test is with a file with at least 10 or 20 sources and try it again.

Tried everything that's been said here and in faq... nothing works anymore... I even lowered myself trying to download hyperpopular britney :-)

Could it have something to do with the 1.19 version? 1.18 worked perfectly here.

I am behind a firewall, but since 1.18 worked i don't see the problem.

some facts:

-Network status ok
-changed the temp dir as stated in faq
-tried songs with 50 sources, they all start as "buffered" and slowly dissapear

Hope this issue can be resolved soon :-)
Thanks for the help upfront!

I upgraded to 1.19 last night. I was having no problem with 1.18 but I also am unable to download anything with 1.19. I had it on all night but this morning there was zero progress. All transfers read Download Status: searching, busy 0, buffer 0. These include attempted downloads with scores of 20-30 or more. The download is not working.

ehore June 23rd, 2002 08:12 AM

Just to double check, I uninstalled v.1.19 and re-installed 1.18. The transfers that I attempted with 1.19 but could not download are now downloading just fine with v1.18. Something is definitely not working right with v1.19.

Version 1.19

There is nothing wrong with giving advice. On the contrary. But just tell us if something ain't working. Nobody yet has said so.

The Gnutella Community is not trying to put you down, just to make sure you heard the facts.

1.18

Where can I download a copy of the 1.18 software.

xolox_girl June 23rd, 2002 01:08 PM

Morgwen, they are right, there does seem to be a lot of slow down with 1.19 I haven't got it to the extent that i get nothing but it's not far off. at the moment one file out of 6 is downloading. and its only got 1 active. there's 0 busy and 30 buffered. the others vary from 18 to over 400 buffered and they are all stuck on connecting apart from one which is queued. 3 have sources that are busy. sorry, now nothing is downloading. It started with 2 downloading but its just tapered off to nothing, yet there are huge amounts in the buffer.

I'm running WinME, cable modem, 324Mb RAM so its not a lack of resources and 1.18 seemed to be alright even though i'm using WinME. There deffinately seems to be something not quite right.

xg

P.S. there's a copy on 1.18 on my site(www.geocities.com/xolox_girl) if anybody is looking for it

KayaMan June 23rd, 2002 04:42 PM

Ok i found out the problem and posted it on the main page XoloX loads. The problems you w2k and wXP users have it that the temp folder is being set to a 'read only' folder and hence can't write to it / can't download.

go here for solution: www.xolox.nl/client/support/faq.html#bugs

or just change the folder attributes of your temp folder to *not* be read-only

Future download versions will have this error corrected soon hopefully.

alcatraz June 23rd, 2002 05:09 PM

I am having the same problem. Version 1.18 worked perfectly. I upgraded to 1.19 and I cannot download a single byte. However, others are able to upload my shares. Network status is ok and I am behind a firewall. Does anyone suppose that the firewall is blocking file downloads in 1.19? Thanks.

Unregistered June 23rd, 2002 07:04 PM

Win XP and No download 1.19

Tried the « change the attribute to archive from read-only» fix for the temp folder.

The folder automatically reverts to read-only. Other users have the same problem. Anybody figured out how to keep that folder as archive permanently ?

All the folders in the computer with XP are read-only, and I can read and write and add any file to these folders, and so can any software.

Is that fix a suggestion only, or a tried and true fix for XP users that has been tested on an actual XP installation, because it doesn't work for me ?

Unregistered June 23rd, 2002 07:38 PM

I just installed 1.19 and it does not download. 1.18 was great. I was trying to get away from Kazaa=adaware. I will not disable my firewall to download anything.

KayaMan June 23rd, 2002 07:49 PM

its a suggestion, because after testign with some users as soon as they corrected the file permission issue they could download.

This seems to be the only cause of the problem

Unregistered June 23rd, 2002 11:08 PM

file permission?

"its a suggestion, because after testign with some users as soon as they corrected the file permission issue they could download. "

What?

How can they correct file permission ?

The temp folder automatically reverts to read-only.
All folders on my Win XP are read-only.

Unregistered June 24th, 2002 02:48 AM

Yup my folder automatically reverts back to read only too. Funny thing is I am still able to download. There seems to be fewer hits and d/l's though. I am running cable and one of my d/l's is coming in at 60k though, so the speed seems to be alright. Will keep yas informed with any new info.
