Default no upload transfers

I hardly ever have anyone downloading any of my shared files. I do get people occaisionally, but not what I was getting on Morpheus. I am always able to download from others, but I just want to make sure that others are able to download from me. Everything is configured correctly (shared folders etc.) but wondering if because I'm behind a NAT firewall whether that could be the problem.

Any ideas?

Why would that be?

I saw the same thing in the FAQ, but it doesn't make sense to me.

If NAT is being utilized, I don't see why it would be a problem.

If you have a firewall then other users cannot connect to you. You have to connect to them. Normally a request for you to make a connection is used, a "push request". But, if both users have a firewall neither can connect to each other.

Is there a way to get around this? I don't think this was a problem on morpheus.

even if I open up ports on my router?

port forwarding?

etc...

I'm sure there are a lot of others in the same situation: behind a soho/home network router.

If you open port 6346 compleatly it should be fine. However even with a firewall, people without a firewall can send you a push and download. It also may depend on the files you have. If you have files that everyone has already downloaded (extreamly popular) or files that are not so common (most people are not interested), then you are not likely to have many uploads.

Default ports...

Okay,

I've opened up my router (port 6346) and I'm forwarding it to my computer.

So far, I'm getting a lot of requests at port 9884. I did a web search and I can't find any service that uses that port, nor can I find any trojan either...

I'm still not getting any requests, even though I get hits at port 6346. I'm hoping that my tastes aren't the problem, as has been suggested.

Perhaps we should have a thread all about sharing behind a router...

what is the force IP feature? what does it do?

The force IP feature allowes you to force Xolox to use a specific IP and port. I found that it's primary use is to resolve conflicts when port 6346 is already being used by another program.

You also will not get many uploads if you are not on the network alot. If you want uploads, you need to stay online for extended periods. Preferably 24/7. That way even if you do have stuff poeple aren't demanding, you will still get your IP out there.

AntiHedron is the bomb!!

okay, thanks for the info...
especially the very good point about being on the network...

I didn't even think about it but you are completely right. If know one knows your IP, then no one is going to come looking...

Another question though..

Forcing the IP, if I am behind a NAT firewall, do I have to force the IP to the IP that the router has (WAN) or do I force it to the LAN IP of my computer?

Am I making sense?

I assume that thru NAT xolox sends my IP as the one on my router, and not the one on my computer (LAN)...

Maybe we should have a detailed FAQ for how to set up port forwarding/sharing if you are behind a NAT/hardware firewall. Especially since they are so popular.

lastly, check out this cool article...

You don't really need to use the force IP feature. If you can get a connection, then there is little reason to use it. (I can still think of some though but they are not going to be common) I am not sure how well Xolox will work if you force it's IP behind a router (havn't really tried it) and it sounds like something that may cause problems.

Forcing the local port in preferences > network tab > advanced options to a port ( 6346 for example) that you are forwarding to your local ip from your router's config will increase the chances of your uploads going through with other people behind a firewall.

Btw, and the local ip you use is your LAN ip, not the WAN

I was out of town for a few days, so sorry for not keeping up on posts.

p.s.
thanks antihedron for being so helpful on the forum

I'll keep all posted as info comes along to when the next much improved version will be released.
