XoloX connect error - Hostslists.txt

1 Attachment(s)
Dear Users,

We noticed that our initial Gnutella hosts aren't working ok. (again :( ). Sorry for this inconvenience..

Characteristics:
XoloX announces : ' Can't connect to network' when you start the application.

Work around:
Totally close XoloX (also in the taskbar).
Download this attachment and place it in your xolox directory.
Restart the application.

Impact on longer term:
Once XoloX gets a stable connection, it will build a hostslist itself.

Request:
To keep this hostlist updated, I would like to ask to other XoloX Users to place their hostlist.txt in this thread too. Thanks..

Greets,
Pasman

Here is my current hostlist (20:19 GMT+1), if you wanna try. I had no problems with gnutella today.

Pasman, what is the purpose of the hostlist and why is it not full human readable? Thx, Moak

Hostlist.txt is a host cache you keep to make connecting to the network faster. I assume it's not human readable so people can't use it to easily harvest G'net user's IPs. (Using XoloX anyway)

Re

Hi Seeker!

Harvest gnutella IPs, I understand. Hmm it's much more efficient to ask a gnutella host cache for harvesting and bad spys can use 'netstat' anyways. Security by obscurity, does not help for my taste but limit some features a human readable hostcache would give (prefered hosts trade with friends or LAN). However... :)

Another thingy, which are Xolox host caches ("initial gnutella hosts"), wouldn't it make sense to let the users edit the gnutella host caches too?

Back to coding.... CU :)

What is a directory?

how do I put something into the directory?

BTW 1.12 let you enter a host manualy in the preferences window.
