Moak did you have any problems with the attachment

Hi, I assume with "the attachment" you mean the hostslist.txt.

Make sure you have Xolox V1.12 (or current version) and as Pasman wrote it has to be closed (completly)! Now copy the attachment into the directory C:\Programme\Xolox or wherever you have installed Xolox.... the old file "hostslist.txt" must be overwritten!!! If you can't find it, press STRG+F in the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and search for hostslist.txt (you should find two, the old and the new)

Here is my current file, Moak

Moak September 18th, 2001 01:01 PM

Spre, if you have further questions, please be kind and follow ONE thread, thx!

STRG... is on your keybord. STRG+F means to press those keys together.
To download the attachment use your browser, now.

Hope it helps, Moak :)

Question

Moax I understand what that means but the STRG key is not on my keyboard. I only see one hostlist.txt in my XOLOX program file in windows explorer. XOLOX is still not working. If you dont mind tell me step for step what you done. I've clicked the attachment that you offered me and it downloaded. HELP PLEASE

Moak September 18th, 2001 01:43 PM

so let's try this way:

* Stop Xolox (even in taskbar!)
* Go into your Xolox directory and rename your old hostslist.txt to hostslistold.txt (use the Windows Explorer to find and do this)
* Download a fresh hostslist.txt with your webbrowser, see above and click the underlined attachment, save it on disk.... on your desktop.
* Copy the hostslist.txt from the desktop into your Xolox directory.
* Now start Xolox.... :)

So long..... Moak

PS: Sorry, instead of Strg+F (german keyboard) press Ctrl+F (english keyboard - or whatever is the key in your left down edge). Me is stupid.

Gliptal September 18th, 2001 01:57 PM

Where are you from Moak?

It's Ctrl+F for find, I have never seen a Strg key.

do you have a US keyboard?

spre September 18th, 2001 02:06 PM

Thanks

Moax YOU ARE MY HERO! That was cool of you to help me out .Thanks again. By the way I have an American keyboard if that helps. I AM UP AND RUNNIG AGAIN:) :) :D

Moak September 18th, 2001 02:13 PM

mvoosten September 18th, 2001 02:31 PM

I always totaly get lost when I have to use one like that :D

Moak September 18th, 2001 02:39 PM

got me

Shame on me! :D Do you know how it fells when you think 'CTRL' but write 'STRG'... time for a break... searching pizza...

To make things work

Hi,

I just like to add that:

I have download 7 or 9 hostlist.txt and notting worked!
Then i saw MOAK msg! and i found out that my xolox was version 1.09!
Get the 1.12 at winsite
http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?4000000036340
then xolox get backs to work like magic!

Moak September 27th, 2001 05:51 PM

One hint

Make sure you are using Xolox V1.12 and the hostslist.txt (fresh downloaded) looks like this (only 3 lines posted):

I;2;>8;2:6346
KI>2;2>8:6347
2?L:;3>;:6346
...

If you don't see some numbers at the end of each line, it's a old hostslist.txt which will NOT work with Xolox V1.12. More details here.

Hi,

Unregistered October 2nd, 2001 06:06 PM

I have xolo 1.12, but i can't find the old host list- there is a temp list, though. I also use gozilla to download things and it names all attachements as Attachement.

Moak October 3rd, 2001 02:13 AM

Don't know Gozilla (a downloadmanager like FlashGet?). Try downloading without downloadmanager, direct with your webbrowser... or use FlashGet.

Unregistered October 7th, 2001 03:26 AM

still wont work for me either???
im running version 1.12, ive trioed all the different lists and still no joy :()

Moak October 7th, 2001 05:29 AM

Did Xolox run before?

If running Xolox at home and you have your computer directly connected to the internet, there should be no problem at all (after replacing the lastest hostslist.txt).

But it might happen that you are behind a firewall and not allowed to use filesharing (Gnutella), using Xolox at a university or company network might be blocked. Can you use any other Gnutella client like Phex, Limewire or Bearshare? (if Bearshare don't forget not to install the Spyware, which can be choosen at installation time). Yuu find a fine overview at Zeropaid.
If one of the above mentioned clients works, also Xolox will work. If no gnutella client works you should change your firewall/proxy settings or talk with your local network administrator.

Does it help? Cya, Moak

PS: What is "A SHODDY POS AT BEST"? I'm not that good in english, sorry.

HeavyMetalHippieFREAK October 20th, 2001 01:29 AM

Patience

1 more thing.... You should give xolox a few minutes to make a connection, it needs time to find and connect to working "hosts".

I kept thinking it wasn't working... finally gave up and went on to the next thing.... and when I came back it was up n runnin.

Unregistered October 24th, 2001 03:31 AM

The cant connect message stays up in the window even when it has connected. Look down bottom to see if connected, then try running a search

Unregistered October 27th, 2001 11:20 AM

Hi,
for some reason xolox is still not working for me. I'm running Windoz 95, with xolox v.1.12
I downloaded the host files posted and pasted them into the xolox directory while the xolox program was closed. But xolox still tells me it can't connect!
Any further ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thx.

Try this....

Hi, for some new users it might be too difficult to download a fresh hostslist, so lets try this:

Start Xolox and go into Menu -> Tools -> Preferences
Then enter 'Gnutellahost': public.bearshare.net
'port' goes into next input box: 6436

Click "Add ", you'll see a message "New host added", close the preferences and wait a minute. Does it help? You can do this whenever you have a connect error.

PS: here are more hosts caches. Enter name and port as above, do not enter the ':' (it's only a seperator):

connect1.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect2.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect3.gnutellanet.com:6346
connect4.gnutellanet.com:6346
gnutella.hostscache.com:6346
gnotella.fileflash.com:6346
router.limewire.com:6346
gnutella.hostscache.com:6346
gnet2.ath.cx:6346
